Toledo Visitation The Order of the Visitation was founded in 1610 in Annecy, France by Saint Francis de Sales & Saint J

The Order of the Visitation of Holy Mary was founded in 1610 in Annecy, France by Saint Francis de Sales and Saint Jane de Chantal “to give to God Daughters of prayer, and souls so interior, that they may be found worthy to serve His infinite majesty and to adore Him in spirit and in truth. . . .” The Toledo monastery was founded from Georgetown by Mother Mary Agnes Faulhaber in 1915. We are cloistered contemplative nuns who serve the Church through prayer and sacrifice.

Live + Jesus! This year, we transfer the Visitation to June 1 after we celebrate the Most Holy Trinity. Thoughts on the Visitation of our Lady.
We know from Holy Mother that St Francis de Sales said he desired to call us the Visitation because “It was a hidden mystery, and it was not like the others, solemnly celebrated in the Church, at least it would be in our Congregation.” (SJF I, 412)
"On the vigil of the Feast of the Visitation in the year 1610 (this would be July 1st), our Holy Founder visited our First Mothers in the enclosure of their novitiate, and he told them among other things that after having a thousand times thought and rethought on the particular name that he should give our rising Congregation, he was finally resolved that it should be named ‘of the Visitation’, not only because he destined his daughters to the visiting and charitable service of the poor, but also because he found in this mystery a thousand spiritual facets which gave him a special light on the spirit he desired to establish in his institute" (L’Annee Sainte VII, 2). The emphasis is on the spiritual facets which reveal the spirit of our institute. This is what is lasting and makes us a Visitandine.

Live+Jesus! “All you birds of the air, bless the Lord; praise and exalt him above all forever!” (Daniel 3:80) The first baby robin left the nest the other day not knowing which direction to go in. He got distracted by us taking his picture then he reoriented himself and got ready for flight into his little kingdom, our inside court with the Sacred Heart of Jesus waiting for him. Two other baby robins were left in the nest, one on the edge wondering what his sibling just did and the other sank back into the nest now having all the room to himself! Thank you, Heavenly Father, for the gift and joy of creation! God be praised!

Live+Jesus! As we celebrate the Solemnity of St. Joseph who St. Francis de Sales made the special patron of our Holy Order, we share his bold claim of this saint being assumed into heaven. "We can never for a moment doubt that this glorious saint has great influence in heaven with him who raised him there in body and in soul -- a fact which is the more probable because we have no relic of that body left to us here below! Indeed, it seems to me that no one can doubt this as a truth, for how could he who had been so obedient to St. Joseph, all through his life, refuse him this grace?" St. Joseph, pray for us! God be praised!

Live+Jesus! As our Holy Founder, St. Francis de Sales, would organize the 40 Hours devotion in France in his time so today we continue that tradition. On the Sunday before Ash Wednesday, we expose the Blessed Sacrament after Holy Mass, we adore Him during the day and throughout the night and conclude on Monday with Vespers, procession through the monastery, and Benediction in order to comfort the Heart of Jesus in reparation for all that offends Him during the excesses of Fat Tuesday and the carnival season. May the Heart of Jesus, in the Most Blessed Sacrament, be praised, adored, and loved with grateful affection, at every moment in all the Tabernacles of the world, even until the end of time. Amen. God be praised!

Live+Jesus! We were blessed this past week to meet two priests who are brothers from Michigan. A mutual friend made the connection and we enjoyed a parlor visit with each of them on consecutive days. Fr. Drew serves in the Diocese of Detroit primarily at Holy Family Parish in Novi and Fr. Zach serves in the Diocese of Lansing and is a member of the philosophy faculty and pre-theology priestly formation team at Sacred Heart Major Seminary. We heard their journey towards the priesthood with some of their time spent here in Toledo attending St. John’s Jesuit high school. May Our Lady keep them under her protective mantle and in the Sacred Heart of Jesus. God be praised!

Live+Jesus! With tremendous gratitude to our Oblate brothers, we were able to celebrate Holy Mass this Third Sunday in Ordinary time despite the Level One Snow Advisory. May Our Lady wrap her holy mantle around all during this winter storm and we continue to hold all of you in prayer.
