Live + Jesus! This year, we transfer the Visitation to June 1 after we celebrate the Most Holy Trinity. Thoughts on the Visitation of our Lady.
We know from Holy Mother that St Francis de Sales said he desired to call us the Visitation because “It was a hidden mystery, and it was not like the others, solemnly celebrated in the Church, at least it would be in our Congregation.” (SJF I, 412)
"On the vigil of the Feast of the Visitation in the year 1610 (this would be July 1st), our Holy Founder visited our First Mothers in the enclosure of their novitiate, and he told them among other things that after having a thousand times thought and rethought on the particular name that he should give our rising Congregation, he was finally resolved that it should be named ‘of the Visitation’, not only because he destined his daughters to the visiting and charitable service of the poor, but also because he found in this mystery a thousand spiritual facets which gave him a special light on the spirit he desired to establish in his institute" (L’Annee Sainte VII, 2). The emphasis is on the spiritual facets which reveal the spirit of our institute. This is what is lasting and makes us a Visitandine.
