Established in 1886 to serve the growing Catholic community south of Swan Creek, The Church of the Immaculate Conception has a rich history. Father John Quin was appointed as the first pastor of the church, which by 1916 had around 650 families, a stunning brick church, and a modern school building.
Tragedy struck in 1920 when a tinner’s pot sparked a fire that destroyed the church. Reconstruction efforts began promptly, and on Palm Sunday of 1922, Bishop Samuel Stritch oversaw the rededication of the church.
Over the years, the parish faced challenges such as the decline of the railroads, the development of the interstate highway system, and shifting urban demographics. However, a period of stability began in 1994, breathing new life into the area. In 2004, the church underwent a comprehensive renovation, both inside and out, ensuring its continued presence as a beacon of faith in Toledo, Ohio.
