It marked the first time in twelve years the USCCB invoked this particularly urgent way of speaking as a body of bishops: usccb.org/resources/USCCB%20Special%20Message%20on%20Immigration.pdf

During this national vocations awareness week, it was so good to join so many for a Eucharistic Holy Hour for Vocations at St Joseph Parish, Maumee on Tuesday evening! Our Director for Priestly Vocations, Fr David Kidd, was celebrant & homilist. Even as we pray so often our diocesan prayer for holy disciples, holy families and holy vocations, this week we focus our prayers for an increase in vocations, in particular to the priesthood and consecrated life! The harvest is plenty but the laborers are few!! Pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers for the harvest!

The Bishops of Ohio have released a statement on the safety and security of Ohio Catholic Diocesan facilities, reassuring the faithful that security of facilities across Ohio remains a high priority. "We all seek a welcoming environment where parishioners or visitors can enter a Church facility confident that they will encounter a peaceful space to encounter the Lord Jesus Christ," they state.

In addition, the Bishops highlight Pope Leo XIV's plead to stop the pandemic of arms and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops lament of the growing number of arms without widespread policies or solutions to safeguard the common good. To ensure the Catholic Church's ministries do not become associated with any proliferation of arms the Bishops of Ohio state, " in the exercise of our prudential judgment, each of us as bishop is implementing a new policy in our own respective dioceses prohibiting any Catholic parish or diocesan-affiliated organization or facility from (i) hosting a sale or raffle involving fi****ms or other weapons and (ii) accepting contributions directly or indirectly from a sale or raffle of fi****ms." Questions regarding each diocese's policy may be directed to the local diocesan chancery.

What a grace to offer Sunday Mass on All Souls Day with our dear Visitation Sisters and the faithful present at the monastery, as together we prayed for all the faithful departed. It was, as always, a gift to visit with all the sisters in the parlor after Mass where we discussed everything from the Church's teaching on purgatory to diocesan events and, of course, asking prayers of each other for our various intentions. As we mourn those who have gone before us in faith, may we know as the widow of Nain, that Jesus looks on us with pity and comforts us with the simple words: "Do not weep." In this month of November, we pray for all our beloved dead that their souls and the souls of all faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
