Good morning as we begin another brand new week with such a big variety things in store for each one of us.

"Perfection is overrated, and also impossible to achieve."

When we look at our schedule for this coming week, we probably see job obligations, appointments, and things that we think need our attention, that only we can handle.
But on that list is there also room for things that just pop up unexpectedly? Emergencies, things we may have forgotten, or things that just go as perfectly as we planned? Those kinds of things happen all the time. The trick is to make room for them, to take them as they come, and give ourselves permission move on.

Maybe the only thing we should be doing is our very best, accept our limitations, and realize that as stated before, "Perfection is overrated".

So, have a wonderful, even if less than perfect week, and relax and just be yourself!

Dear Lord, No one is perfect except You. Help us to realize our short comings, learn from them, and give ourselves permission to accept them and move on. Amen

This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it!

"Jesus saw Matthew, a tax collector, at his at table and He said to him, " Follow me", and Matthew got up and followed Him. As they sat at dinner, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat with Him and His disciples."
Matthew 9:9

Talk about an unacceptable group of people Jesus hung out with. The disciples were lowly fishermen, Matthew was a cheating tax collector, Mary Magdalene was a woman of ill repute. Then of course there were the lepers, the beggars, and the demon possessed. These were absolutely not the social elite.
When the Pharisees questioned why Jesus ate with sinners the answer was simple. "Those who are well are in no need of a physician." Matthew 9:12

That was then, but still today, Jesus calls, saying "Follow me!" He isn't looking for those "good" Christians who already believe, He's looking for those who have not yet heard. And we are the voices He is looking for to share the message "Follow me."
The next time we think we aren't worthy, or smart enough, or good enough people to share the message, let's all just remember the fishermen, the tax collectors, and the undesirables of long ago, and know that as long as we are sharing God's love and word, we have answered the call of "Follow me."

Blessings to all on this beautiful Sunday morning.

Dear Lord, You have simply ask, "Follow me." Help us to hear Your voice and to be ready and willing to follow where You direct us to go. Amen

Good morning as we begin another beautiful summer Saturday.

What's the best way to spend a Saturday?

So often we see the weekend as a time to get ALL those things done we don't have time for during the week. Grocery shopping, yard work, laundry, house cleaning. Now I'm sure all these things are important, to an extent, but the weekend is also a time to stop working and rejuvenate body, mind, and spirit.
Maybe the best way to look at the weekend is to schedule our time, by the hour. Make a list, in order of importance, and work on one thing at a time. When the hour is up, move on. If we get done sooner hooray, if not, it will be there next time.
God gave us this weekend time off so that we wouldn't burn out, so that we could appreciated some leisure time after a week of working. Lets not waste it!

Enjoy this beautiful summer Saturday.

Dear Lord, We really do need to stop and look at the weekend as a time to recharge and relax. Help us to do just that. Amen

Good Friday morning everybody!

What a glorious summer day. The sun is shining, the sky is a beautiful blue, the clouds are fluffy white and the temps are predicted to be nice and warm. God certainly gave us a gift with this day.

But then again, each new day is a gift from God; whether it's sunny and bright, like this one, rainy and grey, or cold and snowy. That is God's gift to us. How we spend our day, is our thank you note to God. When we live fully and well, sharing joy and kindness, we are telling God we appreciate His gift.
When we waste our time and talents, by grumbling, complaining, or just being unaware of the needs of others, we are squandering this gift.

Indeed it is Friday and it's a beautiful day. Time to say "Thanks God, what a great gift this day is going to be!"

Dear Lord, We never know what the day may bring. Help us to live in the moment, smile often, and be grateful for this wonderful gift. Amen

Good morning on this "Think About It" Thursday.

I'm sure we've all seen them, and even read them, those fake news items, or posts about famous people.
This just in . . . or, Died today . . . or, The latest report on . . . And then we begin to wonder, "Is it true?" or, Is it just another scam? 99.9% of the time it's a complete and total, out and out lie. Or a story to get us to click into advertisements.
We want to believe that if it's posted on line, or a big enough headline, it must be true. Sadly, not even close.
Lucky for us, as Christians, there is one thing we can read where every word is true, and every promise is a sure thing. Our Bibles. So the question is, why don't we read them more, and these fake headlines less? Maybe, for some of us, we've heard the Bible stories so often, we feel like we don't need to read them again.
But here's the thing, each time we read those old, old stories, we just might get a new perspective, see something we missed, or just enjoy reading something we can trust in completely.

Now, let's put down that phony news item, pick up our Bibles and read something we can absolutely believe in today.

Just something to think about on this "Think About It" Thursday.

Dear Lord, We know only Your word is true and can be trusted 100%. Thank You for giving us the Bible as our daily guide, and help us to use it often and well. Amen

Good morning on this Wisdom Wednesday.

Another school year is coming to an end and no matter where someone is on the educational ladder, new lessons are always ready to be learned.
From pre-school to post graduated work, and then moving into life, there is always some sort of lesson.

I'm sure we all remember studying for tests, or final exams, or even question and answer periods in class, a way to tell what we had learned and what knowledge we had retained. Those tests usually meant the difference between a passing or a failing grade. And when the test was over, most of us were quite relieved, and happy it was behind us.

Life is just the opposite. We are constantly put to the test, and when all is said and done, hopefully we have learned something, gained some wisdom and insight, or perhaps even enlightened someone else.

It's a very wise person indeed who can appreciate the lessons life sends our way, perhaps use the knowledge we acquired way back when, and move on with life.

Have a wonderful wisdom filled Wednesday.

Dear Lord, learning never stops. Help us to be open to new ideas, and the lessons they are able to teach, and give us the ability pass those lessons on to others. Amen

Good morning on this "One Task" Tuesday

Our "One Task" for today is to . . . .
WAIT

Waiting for anything, is for the most part, one of the hardest things any of us, ever have to do.

Waiting is something that many people take for granted. It's just part of life. We wait at red lights, in traffic, in line at the grocery store, in offices before an appointment, or for phone calls or packages to arrive. And for those for us with very little patience, it is aggravating, and near impossible. I should know, I'm one of those people with very little patience.

Waiting on everyday things can be hard, but waiting on God's timing is even more difficult.
We pray, and most of us want an instant answer. We want results right now. We want answers immediately. We don't want to wait.
What we need to remember is, we need to trust and have faith in God's perfect timing. We need to keep praying, and know that the answers will come, when God is ready.

So, on this "One Task" Tuesday, as hard as it may be, just WAIT. God's answers will come, and they will always be the right ones, at just the right moment.

Have a terrific, and very patience filled, "One Task" Tuesday.

Dear Lord, We hate waiting for anything. Help us to learn patience, have faith in Your timing, and trust that the perfect answers will be coming our way. Amen

Good morning, not only on this first day of a new week, but the first day of a brand new month.

Welcome to June and the summer season with so much to look by forward to. Happy casual days, relaxing summer fun, vacations, everything that summer brings to mind.
But how often, when were planning our summer adventures, do we let our minds go to that place called, "What if . . ." What if the weather is bad, what if we get lost, what if the car breaks down. That what if list can be very long, and pretty scary as well.
Now let's think about the other "What if . . ." list. The one that says, What if this is a beautiful day, what if the weather is perfect, what if we have a wonderful time, what if everything goes as planned. That's absolutely the kind of "What if . . ." list we need to look at first.
There's an old saying I seem to recall;
"Don't trouble trouble, until trouble troubles you."
Sometimes a positive thought, and a flexible game plan, can go a long way in helping us look at what can go right instead of what MIGHT go wrong.
Welcome to this brand new month, this brand new week, and this brand new summer season. Enjoy all the possibilities, and everything that will work out great.

Dear God, 90% of what we worry about never comes to pass. Thank you for being with us through everything that goes right, and especially when things go wrong, knowing you will guide and protect us. Amen

This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

When Jesus said, "Go and make disciples" He wasn't just talking to the apostles, He was talking to us us as well.

Today is Holy Trinity Sunday. The day that celebrates the Three In One; God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. How can the three separate individuals be one? It's a hard concept to grasp, yet there it is. God IS the Father, God IS the Son, God IS the Holy Spirit, the eternal Three in One.
I once heard it explained this way. The Trinity is like Neapolitan ice cream. Three separate different flavors in one carton, yet it is together, and it is all still ice cream.

In our gospel lesson this morning we hear Jesus telling the apostles to "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit". He gives them the authority, and the power, to do just that. And still today, Jesus is commanding us to do the same. Through our words, and our actions, we are living examples of Christ, and by those examples, we have the ability and the duty to "Go and make disciples". And that is exactly what we should always be doing.

Blessings to all on this Holy Trinity Sunday.

Dear Lord, today we celebrate the holy Trinity, and the command to go and make disciples. Give us the willingness to proclaim our faith and help bring others to you. Amen

Good morning on this very sunny, but breezy, Saturday morning.

Are you planning on going to church tomorrow morning? Each Saturday, at the end of this post, there is an invitation to join in worship at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and it's open to everyone at any time.

Have we ever wondered why so often people speak about their "home church" or their "faith family"? It's very simple. A church is not just an elaborate building with an altar, pews, and Bibles, it's God's home. It's His house and the door is always open to anyone who cares to visit. But it's also our home, the place where faith families gather, hear the word, pray for, and support each other, and join in fellowship.
When times get tough, when something wonderful happens, or when we need a little bit of peace and quiet, our first thoughts usually turn to home and family.
Isn't it wonderful that we have three homes? The one we live in day to day, and the one we can visit, whenever we want to, our "church home", and of course, our heavenly home.

The invitation is always open, and God is ready to welcome us home, whenever we want to visit and enjoy the company of our "faith families".

Hoping that everyone will come "home" for a visit tomorrow morning at 9am. God is looking forward to, and waiting, to see us.

Dear Lord, Thank you for the homes you have given us. Our everyday, home, our church home, and our heavenly home. Places where we can feel safe, loved, and very blessed. Amen
