This week, we are reminded of the question of Jesus authority... When he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him as he was teaching and said, “By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?” Jesus said to them, “I will also ask you one question; if you tell me the answer, then I will also tell you by what authority I do these things. Did the baptism of John come from heaven, or was it of human origin?” Matthew 21:23-32

BLESSING OF THE BACKPACKS - As we prepare for another year in school, we ask for your blessing upon our backpacks, and especially on the children who will be wearing them. Bless the students with: eagerness to learn, that their world may grow large; for respect towards the teachers and fellow students, that each may form healthy relationships; love for nature, that they may become care-takers of your creation; happiness when learning is easy and stick-to-it-iveness when it is hard; faith in Jesus as their best teacher and closest friend.

We also ask that you would protect these children… watch over them and keep them safe as they travel to and from school. As they learn, help them also to discover the different gifts that you have given each one of them to be used in your work in the world.

As they hear the many voices that will fill their days, help them to listen more carefully for your voice, the one that tells them you will love them always, no matter what. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
