Be prepared folks. Looks like the ice we’re going to be impacted in some way. Keep a check on each other throughout. A decision on Sunday services will be posted on Saturday morning.
❄️WINTER STORM WARNING UPDATE❄️
We are preparing for a potentially long weekend of hazardous weather conditions. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Stephens County, meaning it’s coming folks!
The most recent NWS model forecast predicts ice and sleet accumulation from half an inch up to two inches starting tomorrow, January 24, around 1 p.m. and lasting through Monday, January 26, around 1 p.m. Heavy ice accumulation will impact our roadways, pipes, and other infrastructure, as well as down power lines and trees. We urge Stephens County residents to be prepared to stay inside for a few days and do not drive unless absolutely necessary!
Our deputies will be available to respond to calls. Please expect delays. Due to dangerous road conditions, deputies and other first responders may not be able to get to your location until hazards are reduced. We will be prioritizing life-or-death calls for service and ask that you please be patient as deputies try to get to you safely. Our wonderful friends at Stephens County 911 & Emergency Management, Georgia anticipate an influx of calls regarding power outages and fallen trees, so please only call 911 in case of a true emergency. If your power goes out, please notify your power company – not 911. Our local road and power crews will be out working to de-ice the roads and remove road hazards as conditions allow.
Deputies will also be available to provide courtesy rides for essential government and healthcare employees. If you are a local government, healthcare, public safety, or critical infrastructure employee, please contact (706) 779-3911 with your information to schedule rides to and from your workplace if needed.
We are continuing to closely monitor the impending weather situation with local government and public safety agencies. Please continue to monitor our social media, mobile app, and local news outlets, as well as Stephens County 911 & EMA, Stephens County EMS, and Carnes Creek Fire Department for updates.
