Many here in the Tishomingo area know and are friends with Rev. Brent Smith. He was a fixture at Camp Bond for several years doing whatever was necessary for helping to bring young people to Christ.
I have known Brent and Michelle since they arrived on the District and have worked beside him on a number of occasions.
He is perhaps in his final days on earth and recently sent this message to the District office for all to hear his heart. Please be in prayer for them and the family!
The words that follow are from his heart:
To every person whose life has crossed my path, thank you. Serving the Lord and serving you has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. Whether you worshiped alongside me for decades or only knew me for a short time, please know that you have been deeply loved, sincerely prayed for, and forever appreciated.
As my health continues to decline, my strength and energy have become very limited. Because the time I have left is precious, I have chosen to spend it quietly with my wife and children. This has not been an easy decision, nor is it a reflection of my love for anyone else. Quite the opposite—it grieves me that I no longer have the time or strength to spend with everyone who has meant so much to me. I simply ask that you honor my wishes so these final days may be filled with peace and the presence of those closest to me.
If I could leave you with one final message, it would not be about me. It would be about Jesus.
The hope I have preached throughout my life has become the hope I now rest in completely. I have peace because I know where I am going. My greatest desire is that every person reading this can say the same. More than anything, I hope to see you again—not just in this life, but in eternity. If you have never placed your faith in Jesus Christ, there is no decision more important. My prayer is that each of you would know the same peace, assurance, and joy that Christ has given me.
Please remember me not for this illness, but for God’s faithfulness throughout my life, the joy I found in serving others, and the love I have for my family, my church, and my Savior.
Thank you for every prayer, every act of kindness, every friendship, and every life shared along the way. You have been one of God’s greatest blessings to me.
With all my love in Christ,
Pastor Brent Smith
