Be not afraid!
What do you fear? Different surveys show different fears of people. Some common fears of people are public speaking, heights, snakes, flying, enclosed spaces, humiliation, and illness. A great many people fear death, especially if you don't believe in heaven or some form of "afterlife."

Death entered the world through the sin of Adam. We are all affected by it. However, our Lord does not want us to fear death itself. Jesus is the Lord of life; He offers eternal life to us. Our Lord teaches, "And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul, rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna" (Matthew 10:28). Our Lord does not want us to fear the death of the body, and I hate to break it to you, it's inevitable. Some day our time will be up here on earth.
Our Lord, though, does want us to fear, in some sense, spiritual death. One of the worst things one could experience is the death of the soul. This fear is a healthy one in the sense that it keeps us on the straight and narrow path to Heaven (paraphrased Matthew 7:13-14). This fear keeps us from continuing in sin and helps us to seek God's Mercy.
Our Lord desires us to spend eternity with Him in Heaven; a place in which we will be more alive there than we are now. The exact opposite of the death of a soul.
If it has been a while since your last Confession, I encourage you to seek the Mercy of God in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. It's a great opportunity to clean up the soul, to get rid of sins that are preventing a deeper relationship with God, and to be given God's grace to strengthen your resolve against temptation. Please see our bulletin for Confession times or call and make an appointment. Be not afraid; the Lord is waiting for you to return.
