As we celebrate Labor Day, let us take a moment to recognize the dignity of every worker and the many ways their efforts help families, communities, and our church flourish. St. Mary’s “Not Just Another Car Show!” is only two weeks away on Sunday, September 20th.

Be sure to sign-up to work a shift or stay all day. It’s fun! The sign-up sheet is located at the entrance of church. We also need bakers to make tasty treats for the bake sale. The church will be open on Saturday, September 19th from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm to drop off your baked goods. Otherwise, have your baked goods to church by 8:00 am Sunday morning on the 19th.

Also, please have your items for the bucket raffles to church by Saturday, September 19th. Continue to pray for great weather!

Accepting the Will of God (Part 2): September 6, 2026

Some of the spiritual works of mercy can be challenging to practice because often they require difficult conversations that require openness and receptivity. These spiritual works are important because they help the person to come to know, love, and serve God better. The three that I am alluding to are counseling the doubtful, instructing the ignorant, and admonishing the sinner. If practiced with the right intention, then these actions can be a great act of mercy and love, helping someone to stay on the path towards Heaven. Sometimes the audience for these might not be open to a conversation and so we must pray that the Holy Spirit makes us a gentle teacher and that the Holy Spirit makes the other person receptive to the teachings of Jesus and His Church.

These three spiritual works of mercy are ways in which we assist others in accepting the will of God. “Counseling the doubtful” means giving good advice (godly advice) to those who are unsure of what is right or true. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) describes instructing the ignorant as to “Learn about our faith and be open to talking with others about our beliefs. There is always something more to discover about our faith.” We often do this through religious education and teaching the people around us about the doctrines of our faith. Furthermore, the USCCB teaches that admonishing the sinner means, “Do not judge, but be supportive in helping others find their way and correct their mistakes. Together we can learn to walk more closely with Christ.” Admonishing the sinner is always truth + charity. We don’t want others to stay in habitual and grave sin because we love them and want them to be in heaven. This requires a gentle correction of bad behaviors so that the person may turn back to God. It is important to remember that when we correct someone to not be arrogant (“Remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter from your brother's eye” (Mt 7:5)). We are all in need of God's loving correction.

These three spiritual works of mercy assist us when we struggle with accepting the will of God. We are called to grow in our faith. May we help each other on this journey.

You are encouraged to attend Mass at another location this weekend (9/5-9/6) as there is a safety issue within the building. Fr Rydell will offer an outdoor Mass at St Mary at 10:30 am on Sunday; however seating will be limited.
