Trinity United Church of Christ Tiffin

Trinity United Church of Christ Tiffin Living and sharing God's compassion, justice and peace in the world. All are welcome!

09/06/2026

With our joint ecumenical service last week and no sermon this Sunday, we’re looking back at Jim Koehl’s message from two weeks ago: "We Are Family."

Drawing on personal experiences and biblical reflections on unity and support, Jim reminds us that church is far more than an organization—it’s a household of faith called to carry one another’s burdens.

*CALL TO WORSHIP

*OPENING HYMN Arise, Your Light Is Come 164

Arise, your light is come! The Spirit's call obey;
Show forth the glory of your God which shines on you today!

Arise, your light is come! Fling wide the prison door;
Proclaim the captive's liberty, good tidings to the poor.

Arise, your light is come! All you in sorrow born,
Bind up the broken-hearted ones and comfort those who mourn.

Arise, your light is come! The mountains burst in song!
Rise up like eagles on the wing; God's power will make us strong.

*OPENING PRAYER
Leader: Morning has broken. Let us give thanks for the gift of life and for the presence of the Holy One among us. Let us worship God together.
All: Thanks be to God!

*GLORY 759
Glory to the Creator, the Christ, the Holy Spirit, Three-in-One; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

SCRIPTURES AND HYMNS
Old Testament: Exodus 12: 1-14

GREAT IS YOUR FAITHFULNESS 423

Great is your faithfulness, O God, Creator,
with you no shadow of turning we see.
You do not change, your compassions they fail not;
all of your goodness forever will be.

Great is your faithfulness!
Great is your faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed your hand has provided,
Great is your faithfulness, God, unto me!

Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest,
sun, moon, and stars in their courses above,
Join with all nature in manifold witness
to your great faithfulness, mercy, and love. [Refrain]

Pardon for sin and a peace so enduring,
your own dear presence to cheer and to guide.
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
blessings all mine with ten thousand beside.[Refrain]

New Testament: Romans 13: 8-14

LOVE DIVINE, ALL LOVES EXCELLING 43

Love divine, all loves excelling, joy of heaven, on earth be found.
Fix in us a humble dwelling, all your faithful mercies crown;
Jesus, you are all compassion; pure, unbounded love impart.
Visit us with your salvation, enter every trembling heart.

Breathe, O breathe your loving Spirit into every troubled breast;
Let us all in you inherit, let us find your promised rest;
Take away our love of sinning; Alpha and Omega be;
End of faith, as its beginning, set our hearts at liberty.

Come, almighty to deliver, let us all your life receive;
Suddenly return, and never, nevermore your temples leave.
You we would be always blessing, love you as your angels love,
Pray and raise for your unfailing, wounded arms outstretched above.

Finish, then your new creation; pure and spotless may we prove;
Let us see your great salvation perfectly restored in you;
Changed from glory into glory, till in heaven we take our place,
Crowned as saints, we ever shall be lost in wonder, love and praise.

Gospel: Matthew 18:15-20

LORD, I WANT TO BE A CHRISTIAN 454

Lord, I want to be a Christian in my heart, in my heart;
Lord, I want to be a Christian in my heart.
In my heart, in my heart, Lord, I want to be a Christian in my heart.

Lord, I want to be more loving in my heart, in my heart.
Lord, I want to be more loving in my heart. In my heart, in my heart,
Lord, I want to be more loving in my heart.

Lord, I want to be more holy in my heart, in my heart;
Lord, I want to be more holy in my heart. In my heart, in my heart,
Lord, I want to be more holy in my heart.

Lord, I want to be like Jesus in my heart, in my heart;
Lord, I want to be like Jesus in my heart. In my heart, in my heart,
Lord, I want to be like Jesus in my heart.

CLOSING HYMN Blest Be the Tie that Binds 393

Blessed be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love;
the sharing of a common life is like to that above.

Before our God we come and pour our ardent prayers;
Our fears, our hopes, our aims are one, our comforts and our cares.

We share each other's woes, Each other's burdens bear.
And often for each other flows a sympathizing tear.

When we are called to part it gives us inward pain,
But we shall still be joined in heart, and hope to meet again.

If you missed service on Sunday, we missed you too. Have no fear though, here is Sunday's Ecumenical Service in the park, reuploaded with better sound. The video did not work well, so a slideshow is included as a replacement.

Please enjoy.

*CALL TO WORSHIP

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into God’s presence with singing!
Know that the Lord is God!

*OPENING HYMN Church's One Foundation 386

The church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ our Lord;
we are Christ's new creation by water and the word;
From heaven Christ came and sought us in love to set us free;
with precious blood Christ bought us for all eternity.

Elect from every nation, yet one o’er all the earth,
one charter of salvation, one God, one faith, one birth,
One name together blessing, one holy food we share,
to one hope we are pressing, at one in work and prayer.

'Mid toil and tribulation, and tumult of our war,
we wait the consummation of peace forevermore,
Till with the vision glorious, our longing eyes are blessed,
and the great church victorious shall be the church at rest.

Yet we on earth have union with God, the Three-in-One,
and mystic sweet communion with those whose rest is won.
O happy ones and holy! God, give us grace that we,
like them, the meek and lowly, may live eternally.

*SCRIPTURE HYMN O Savior, Let Me Walk With You 503

O Savior, let me walk with you in earthly paths of service true;
Tell me your secret, help me bear the strain of toil, the fret of care.

Help me the slow of heart to move by some clear, winning word of love.
Teach me the wayward feet to stay, and guide them in the homeward way.

Teach me your patience; let me be in closer, dearer company,
In work that keeps faith sweet and strong, in trust that triumphs over wrong.

In hope that sends a shining ray far down the future's broadening way,
In peace that only you can give, with you, O Savior, let me live.

SERMON/MESSAGE We Are Family Jim Koehl

APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and glory forever and ever. Amen.

*CLOSING HYMN Take My Life, God, Let it Be 448

Take my life, God, let it be consecrated faithfully.
Take my moments and my days, let them flow in ceaseless praise.

Take my spirit, let it move at the impulse of your love.
Take my intellect and use all its powers as you choose.

Take my will; your will be done! Make your will and mine be one.
Take my heart, and by your grace make of it your dwelling place.

Take my love and help it grow; let my loving overflow.
Take me now, and help me be part of Christ's community.
