Mark David Nichols is a dynamic trumpeter, performer, and dedicated music educator based in the Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia (DMV) region.
A versatile artist who moves effortlessly between styles, Mark brings brilliance and heart to classical, jazz, sacred, and pop music. His rich, expressive sound and musical sensitivity have been shaped by distinguished mentors including John Slezak, Ernest Wolfle, Rick Ensminger, Terry Schwartz, Ross Beacraft, and Bill Dunn. He earned his Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance from Wheaton Conservatory of Music.
Mark has performed with some of the area’s finest ensembles, including the award-winning Spires Brass Band, Rockville Brass Band, Wheaton Concert Band, the Spires and Creekside Brass Quintets, his own Mark Nichols Trio, the high-energy Prophets of Cool, and many of the DMV’s top big bands. Whether delivering a soaring solo, blending seamlessly in a quintet, or driving a jazz combo, he brings professionalism, creativity, and joy to every performance.
In addition to performing, Mark is a passionate educator. He teaches trumpet and jazz privately and through the Eric Byrd Jazz Studio, inspiring the next generation of musicians with the same excellence he brings to the stage.
