The memorial service for our dear sister in Christ, Skip Brenner, will be Tuesday, June 16th, at 1:00pm in Pasadena, at 2954 East Del Mar Blvd. This is the assisted living residence that she had lived at for the last few years.

“Skip” Brenner was born in 1926 and passed away at the age of 99 last week.

She is survived by her son, Mike, and daughter in law, Denise Dimin. Several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews and other special family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Logan, her daughter, Vicki (Max), her parents and her sisters and brothers in law, Arlene (Marvin) Egerdal and Lois (Bob) Fabian.

Skip attended country school for primary years and graduated from Cannon Falls high school. She did teletype training and worked for the railrode in Arizona for two years before returning to the St. Paul area to work. She and Logan married November 1949 and had two children, Mike and Vicki raising their family in north St Paul area. Her natural skill and abilities with numbers and book keeping and her diligence and integrity served her and her employers well. Beginning in a department store office, and moving to American National Bank for over 25 years working her way up from a teller to commercial loan department. Skip moved to Thousand Oaks in 1984, she enjoyed attending and working at Ascension Lutheran church in the finance office.

Skip and Logan enjoyed RV camping with family and friends, traveling to 49 states (she never got to Hawaii). One of her greatest joys was quilting! She made hundreds of quilts which have been distributed worldwide wide! Another joy was her dogs and the daily walking that is involved with having dogs. She also enjoyed line dancing! The annual thanksgiving camp out was always highlight to each year. She was an avid reader.
Her faith and church family were very important to her.

She will be remembered for her kindness, fun quick wit, quilts and her good cooking and her delicious “Skip Cake!” - Chocolate cake w chocolate icing!

She will be dearly missed by her family and all those who loved her!!

Personal Care Kits are running out — and neighbors in crisis need them now.

When disaster strikes, Personal Care Kits are always one of the first requests.

A toothbrush. A bar of soap. A clean towel. These simple items become luxuries. They give dignity. They bring hope to our neighbors in their darkest moments.

With hurricane season intensifying and disasters increasing in frequency and force, Lutheran World Relief needs your love — and your Personal Care Kits — urgently.

Whether you make one kit on your own or hundreds with your congregation, school or community group — every single kit will reach someone in their most vulnerable moment.

Use the available resources at the link in the blog and get started today. So when neighbors face disaster, your love will already be waiting. https://bit.ly/3SBEBB6

Until your love reaches every neighbor.

Colossians 2:13-14

13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you[a] alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.

June 15, 2026, Monday Morning Bible Study Devotional
Dear Friends in Christ:
The tiny, shimmery hummingbird outside my sliding door dunked its spear into the feeder and drank up the sweet nectar, its wings all the while flapping in a blur. (Did you know a hummingbird can flap its wings up to 80 beats a second?!)
There was no rung on which the diminutive bird could balance while it drank, but hummingbirds can both fly and hover, and this one was hovering at great speed.
It was a wonder to behold.
Funny, I was just then reading a devotion on wonder—and how often, in our frantic lives, we miss the wondrous.
We speed through our days, right by the incredible wonders God has created for us.
“The greater God’s gifts and works, the less are they regarded,” Martin Luther lamented.
What are we missing by not stopping to notice the wonders of God?
I think it is not only the beauty and delight that we forgo. We also deny ourselves the lessons in God’s creation, the messages He has for us, for He reveals Himself there.
Just ask the animals, and they will teach you. Ask the birds of the sky, and they will tell you. Speak to the earth, and it will instruct you. Let the fish in the sea speak to you.—Job 12:7-9
What might God want to say to you through the wonder of His creation?
It is summer—a perfect time to recalibrate and discover the answer. I have two words for us—well, three.
Stop.
Be still.
Not for always, not even for an hour. Start with just a few minutes in your busy day (take a deep breath—you can do it) and look around you. Perhaps you’re outside, taking a walk, or sitting in a chair by the window. What do you see?
Maybe it’s a mama bird feeding her young, the colorful flutter of a butterfly, an evocative pattern in the clouds, or just a gentle breeze.
That’s God out there reminding us—beautifully—that He provides for all his creatures—including us; that He creates all things new; that He oversees everything; that He offers refreshment to tired and weary spirits.
There is hope in nature, which is part of the wonder of it.
Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!—Luke 12:24
There is joy and beauty for the wounded spirit. Have you ever stood outside, perhaps in your front yard or at the beach, and watched a purply-pink-peach sunset? It is magnificent! It speaks to sad souls and awakens joy.
The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy.—Psalm 65:8
This summer—and onward—let’s take time to:
Stop.✋
Be still.
And wonder at—and thank—the loving Creator who surrounds us with such everchanging and intricate beauty, and through it, speaks gentle lessons to renewing a right spirit within us.

Matthew 9:35-10:8

The Harvest Is Great, the Laborers Few
35 Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing every disease and every sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38 therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

The Twelve Apostles
10 Then Jesus[a] summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to cure every disease and every sickness. 2 These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon, also known as Peter, and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee and his brother John; 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus and Thaddaeus;[b] 4 Simon the Cananaean and Judas Iscariot, the one who betrayed him.

The Mission of the Twelve
5 These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not take a road leading to gentiles, and do not enter a Samaritan town, 6 but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 As you go, proclaim the good news, ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’[c] 8 Cure the sick; raise the dead; cleanse those with a skin disease; cast out demons. You received without payment; give without payment.
