Message from the Islamic Center of Conejo Valley on the Attack at a Hanukkah Celebration in Australia
The Islamic Center of Conejo Valley (ICCV) strongly condemns the tragic shooting that targeted a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia. We offer our deepest condolences to the families of those affected and stand with the Jewish community during this painful time. In the face of this violence, we are deeply inspired by the bravery of a Muslim fruit vendor who risked his life to stop an attacker and protect others. His actions reflect the true spirit of Islam—faith is shown through acts of courage, compassion, and service to others.
As the Qur’an reminds us:
"Whoever saves one life—it is as if they have saved all of humanity." (Qur'an 5:32)
This verse speaks to the value of all human life, regardless of religion or background. and reminds us that we are one human family, responsible for each other’s safety and dignity.
The Qur’an also teaches us:
"O humankind, We created you from a single soul and made you into nations and tribes so that you may know one another." (Qur'an 49:13)
Our diversity should not divide us, but should encourage us to understand, cooperate, and take responsibility for each other. In the face of both terror and heroism, we call for renewed solidarity among Muslims, Jews, Christians, and people of all faiths and communities, both locally and around the world.
ICCV is committed to standing against hatred, and working in our community with neighbors of all faiths and backgrounds to protect the dignity and value of human life.
