Ever feel like your life didn't go according to plan? Joseph certainly did. Sold into slavery by his brothers, falsely accused, and thrown into prison—yet through it all, "the Lord was with Joseph."

This week we explored how God refines us through hardship, not despite it. Joseph learned to serve faithfully in every circumstance—whether as a slave in Potiphar's house or as a prisoner. He faced temptation, ran from sin, and trusted God even when falsely accused. The result? God gave him favor everywhere he went, and even his jailers trusted him completely.

The truth is powerful: "You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good" (Genesis 50:20). When we serve the Lord faithfully in our hardest seasons, He polishes us, refines us, and positions us for His purposes. Your difficult season isn't the end of God's plan—it might be exactly where He's preparing you for what's next.

Are you willing to serve God even in the hardship?

Today we thank the Lord for the fathers, grandfathers, spiritual fathers, uncles, coaches, and father figures who lead with love, serve with humility, protect with strength, and reflect the heart of God.

Fatherhood is a high calling, and we are grateful for the men who faithfully point their families toward Jesus—not through perfection, but through presence, prayer, wisdom, and love.

“The righteous who walks in his integrity—blessed are his children after him!” // Proverbs 20:7

To all the dads and father figures in our church family, we honor you, appreciate you, and are praying God’s blessing over you today.

"Hear, O sons, a father's instruction, and be attentive, that you may gain insight, for I give you good precepts; do not forsake my teaching. When I was a son with my father, tender, the only one in the sight of my mother, he taught me and said to me, “Let your heart hold fast my words; keep my commandments, and live. Get wisdom; get insight; do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth." // Proverbs 4:1-9

The mistake between Judah and Tamar reveals just how flawed the people are in the lineage of Jesus Christ.

Rather than presenting a heroic lineage, Genesis 38 shows us that the "Lion of the Tribe of Judah" emerged from a family marked by deception, sexual immorality, and repeated failures.

Yet through it all, we see God's sovereign hand weaving redemption into the fabric of human brokenness.

This has profound implications for our spiritual life:

1. We cannot outrun our sin by avoiding it or hiding from it. Judah tried to run from his guilt over selling Joseph, but his sinful patterns followed him. Like Judah, we need to stop avoiding our sin and bring it into the light before our Redeemer.

2. Jesus is our Kinsman Redeemer who gives us His identity. Just as Tamar received Judah's signet ring, cord, and staff—symbols of family identity—Christ gives us His identity when we place our faith in Him. We are marked as His own.

3. God's redemptive plan works through broken people. The genealogy of Jesus includes prostitutes, adulterers, and sinners. This should give us tremendous hope that God can use our broken stories for His glory and purposes.

As we move forward this week, let's remember that the title "Lion of the Tribe of Judah" is glorious not because of Judah's righteousness, but because of Christ's redemption.

Whatever sin you may be running from, whatever shame you carry, bring it to Jesus. He is the one who forgives, redeems, and gives you your true identity in Him.
