Good afternoon, today we are looking at 1 Thessalonians chapter 4 verses 1 - 8
Before we move forward, please keep the leaders of your government in prayer, America, Liberia, Uganda, India, Myanmar, etc., wherever you’re found. This world is heading towards destruction as prophesied in the book of Revelation, Daniel, Zachariah and others but we believers are here now to be used by the Holy Spirit to restrain evil until we’re brought out, caught up. So be holy as we are encouraged to do, be separate, not separated in the sense of not engaging with the world, but don’t act like they do. Amen.
1 Thessalonians chapter 4 verses 1 - 8
“Therefore as to the rest, brethren we ask you, and beseech in the Lord Jesus, as ye received from us how ye must walk and please God, that ye may more abound. For you know what commandments and precepts we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus For this is the will of God, that you be sanctified [separated and set apart from sin]: that you abstain and back away from sexual immorality that each of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor [being available for God’s purpose and separated from things profane], not [to be used] in lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God and are ignorant of His will; Never harm or cheat a fellow believer in this matter by violating his wife, for the Lord avenges all such sins, as we have solemnly warned you before. For God has not called us to impurity, but to holiness [to be dedicated, and set apart by behavior that pleases Him, whether in public or in private]. So whoever rejects and disregards this is not [merely] rejecting man but the God who gives His Holy Spirit to you [to dwell in you and empower you to overcome temptation].”
This is a serious matter indeed.
Here is a quote from David Gurzik
“Paul gave these commands to a first-century Roman culture that was marked by sexual immorality. At this time in the Roman Empire, chastity and sexual purity were almost unknown virtues. Nevertheless, Christians were to take their standards of sexual morality from God and not from the culture”
Sounds a lot like our world today, with the exception of it is far more in your face, and you have the ability to be anonymous to the world however, remember God knows and sees all things.
Our walk is important, it reflects the Holy Spirit living within us. Our walk doesn’t save us because we slip many times in many ways. But our walk is away, a very important way probably one of the most important ways that the world sees the reality of Jesus living within us because of our changed lives.
1 Corinthians chapter 6 verse 19 -
“Or do you⁺ not know that your⁺ body is a temple of the Holy Spirit in you⁺, whom you⁺ have from God? And you⁺ are not your own, For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's”
1 John chapter 1 verses 8 -
“If we should say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us If we [freely] admit that we have sinned andconfess our sins, He is faithful and just [true to His own nature and promises], and will forgive our sins and cleanse us continually from all unrighteousness [our wrongdoing, everything not in conformity with His will and purpose]. If we say that we have not sinned [refusing to admit acts of sin], we make Him [out to be] a liar [by contradicting Him] and His word is not in us”
So be honest with God confess for He will forgive you, repent, do a 180 from that sin whatever it is. The word used here for cleanse is continually, Jesus’ blood keeps on cleansing. His blood is powerful.
Hebrews chapter 10 verses 1 - 5
“For the law, having a shadow of the good things about to be, not the image of the things themselves, every year with the same sacrifices that they offer unto perpetuity, never is able to perfect those coming near. For if it were otherwise, would not these sacrifices have stopped being offered? For the worshipers, having once [for all time] been cleansed, would no longer have a consciousness of sin But in these is a reminder of sins every year For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and of goats to take away sins. Therefore, when Christ enters into the world, He says, “SACRIFICE AND OFFERING YOU HAVE NOT DESIRED, BUT [instead] YOU HAVE PREPARED A BODY FOR ME [to offer]”
A body that was offered once and for all on the cross that we hear the words of our Lord Jesus ring down through the ages to today and beyond “it is finished “
But He did not stay in the grave no He rose again, we like Him will rise again or transformed in a twinkling of an eye. So let us encourage one another as we see the day approaching. Amen
