Our Story
Our story is one defined best by the outcomes we produce through the power and grace of God. We believe in teaching, leading, and developing young people by providing them with the guidance, mentoring, tutoring, activities, and experiences to best motivate them to reach for success. In fact, our mission statement is to “enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens”.
To accomplish this mission we start by focusing on providing a safe environment with caring professional leaders who invest the love of Jesus Christ into their lives. Our staff does not simply concentrate on meeting a child’s academic needs, but rather uses a consistent combination of genuine care, discipline, time investment, and interest in their daily lives to show each child that walks through our doors that they are more than a number. We understand that each of these children entrusted to us are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14).
Our successful outcomes include a 90% graduation rate for Boys & Girls Club alumni. Many of these club members go on to graduate college and then return to us as club staff or program volunteers. Another recent success was that our club was awarded with the Building Bridges REACH award, given to the Boys & Girls Club with the highest improvement in report card GPA improvement within all of the North and South Carolina division.
This new year will bring new opportunities to build on our success. In efforts to maximize our program impact and better meet the needs of our great kids, our organization recently acquired a new building for our Afterschool and Summer Day Camp Programs. This new building, located at 309 Etta Lane in Thomasville off of Highway 109, includes a full size gymnasium with 6 basketball goals, a multipurpose classroom, a computer lab, office space for parent consultations, and a concession stand for potential tournaments and competitions.
