History of New Beginnings UMC of Thomasville
Founding and Early Years
First United Methodist Church
Reverend Edward Suits founded First United Methodist Church (UMC) in 1906. The congregation moved to their own church building on Taylor Street, with the first service held on May 26, 1907. On November 3, 1957, the congregation celebrated the first service in their new building at 100 E Sunrise Ave

. Trinity United Methodist Church
Meanwhile, in May 1922, the first sermon was delivered in what would become Trinity UMC, with J.C. Richardson as the first pastor. Trinity UMC later moved to a new building on Liberty Drive, holding its first service there on September 30, 1962. Joining Forces
In 2017, First UMC and Trinity UMC joined forces, forming a charge to worship together and engage in various community missions and outreach initiatives. Recognizing the potential for greater impact, the charge decided in August 2022 to merge officially. This merger aimed to better serve God and fulfill their mission: “To serve Christ, make disciples, and transform the world.”
New Beginnings UMC
The first service of the newly formed New Beginnings UMC was held on January 8, 2023. Since then, the church has continued to grow and serve the Thomasville community, staying true to its mission and vision.
