Sometimes I have Moses and Martha moments. Wandering and wasting time. So many days I am going in circles, around and around, instead of going to God. Days of trying to stay busy and not choosing to sit in His presence and rest. Days I think I do not want to hear that I need to make a change. Going around things instead of going to God. Not seeing the real beauty around me because I am distracted by shiny things.

Moses and Martha
Wandering and Wasting

But, small changes make a big difference. Sit in His presence today and allow him to give you peace as only He can. Turn off the noise and just listen.

We will be starting a group in a couple of weeks on this book. It’s 7 chapters so it will be a 7 week group. Tuesdays at 6:30. We will have coffee and snacks. We will read a chapter a week and also pair it up with the Bible and, as always, let God lead us to what He wants to each week. It’s a great way to learn more about God and connect with other women of faith. We have a few spots open. Message if you’d like to join! 💛

Harvest or War?

There’s a scripture in Isaiah 2:4 that says, “They will beat their swords into plows and their spears into pruning knives.”

A few months ago I was in a weird place. I felt like I was doing everything I knew to but felt as though I just wasn’t at rest in my spirit. I felt like I just kept hitting a wall that I didn’t recognize. I read this scripture and it hit me like a ton of bricks.

You’re at war when you should be at harvest.

My immediate thought was, “well those are two totally different things. No wonder I’ve been feeling like this.”

War looks a whole lot differently than working a field. War requires fighting. Intensity. Risk. Opposition. An ability to change your position and plan at any moment.

The road to harvest involves consistency. Quiet commitment. Focus on the task at hand. Patience. The strength to plow and prune and the restraint to rest. An ability to allow what cannot yet be seen to motivate your work.

The weapons of war are not the tools of harvest.

And just like there’s a time for harvest, there’s a time for war. In Joel 3:10 it says, “Beat your plows into swords and your pruning knives into spears. Let even the weakling say, ‘I am a warrior.’”

You need to know your season. You learn that by talking to God. By reading His word. I was swinging a sword when I should’ve had my hand on a plow. I’ve switched gears now and it’s been so nice. I’m just in my field plowing away. Letting my spirit rest. Listening to God while watching things grow from the land I’ve dedicated myself to.

It’s okay to not be in fighting mode all the time. Sometimes the kingdom needs you to be a farmer, not a soldier.

Just know what God’s asking of you. I can promise you this, if you’re in His will, the field or the battleground, it’s His power that will do the work.

So which one is it going to be,
Sword or plow?
Spear or pruning knife?
Pick something up, let’s go!

First of all I want to be really clear and say that I am not limiting Jesus to a lane. To anything for that matter. Hear me out.

In John 12 Jesus is talking to the people and explains in verse 47, "If anyone hears my words and doesn't keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world."

What's so cool about this is Jesus is God robed in flesh. He could judge away if He chose to. In fact, He did a lot of that in the Old Testament when He wasn't in human form. However, He is fully aware of His mission, at this time. He knows that He is on the earth for the purpose of salvation. He knows the commands of His father in heaven.

He even says in verse 49, "For I have not spoken on my own, but the Father himself who sent me has given me a command to say everything I have said."

Yes, it can get kind of confusing because God and Jesus are one in the same. But, in my opinion, that's what makes this even more powerful. Even Jesus stayed in His lane. Even Jesus was clear on His mission from God. Even Jesus was supremely obedient to that purpose and did not try and perform other duties.

Jesus essentially had power and dominion over all. He could've judged and saved. He could've condemned and loved. But, He was sent for a purpose and a call. That is what He focused on and that is the mission He successfully carried out.

We have to stay in our lane ladies. We better get our commands from God and God alone and pursue those above all. We better quit being distracted with what we COULD do. We better quit being distracted by what SHE is doing. We must carry out the mission given to us by our father in heaven. It's time.

STAY IN YOUR LANE and let every distraction of the enemy be dismantled in Jesus name.

My thoughts

How freeing would it be to accept ourselves as we are? To not waste valuable time on negative body talk, to not compare ourselves to others, to age gracefully and be comfortable in our own skin (even as it wrinkles).

It would be such freedom.

Confidence is the most beautiful thing we can posses. Let us speak positive affirmations and cut negative talk when we speak about our bodies. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10.

God has already defined our beauty, let’s not refine it .

It became evident after our last photo shoot that our group needed some freedom in the area of body image. Lately, I’ve been in prayer about the clutter that needs to go from the team in order for us to better serve the women God has called us to serve. I was surprised to see just how much we were struggling in the area of body shame. To be honest, I sort of thought it didn’t matter spiritually. God has been showing me I was very wrong.

When I told the group we were starting Jess Connolly’s study on Breaking Free From Body Shame, Tammy called me. She said, “I’m going to come to the Bible study but I surely don’t need to break free from any body shame.”

There are no truer words.

At the photo shoot, woman after woman walked up for her turn and quickly pointed out the parts of her that she loathed. She warned us of the size of those parts. She told us what wasn’t working in her outfit. You could hear the words, “ugly, too big, fat, horrible, and disgusting.” Some of them would barely even come in front of the camera. When it was Tammy’s turn, she did what she always does. She walked right up and lit up the entire place with her confidence and self love. She posed this way and that. She told us how good she looked. How much she loved herself. She never once said one negative thing about what we were seeing.

Every time Tam comes over she walks in with that million dollar smile and just shines. She will support you and cheer for you like no one I’ve ever seen. She will make you laugh until your stomach and your face hurt. She will speak life over you and love you up like only she can. And you will never, not ever, hear her say anything critical or negative about her body or anyone else’s. It is the most refreshing thing to experience.

And because Tammy has never once mentioned her thigh size, I’ve never once thought about it. Because she’s never once talked about how much she hates the size of her waist or her jeans, I’ve never once thought about them. Because she’s never made her body the negative focus, all I’ve ever really noticed are the wonderful things about her soul and her spirit that make her who she is. And, in my opinion, whatever is carrying that is beautiful regardless.

Her response to how she views herself is always, “When God made Adam, He called him good. When God made woman, He called her very good. I’m very good.” She’s convinced that if God named her being very good then that’s what she is. And because that’s what she wholeheartedly believes, that’s what shines and oozes out of her no matter what situation she is in.

She lives in absolute freedom.

It leaves you awestruck.
It’s inspiring.
It’s something I want for myself and for every woman I meet more than I can tell you.

What would happen if we could strip off the weight of body shame? Of poor body image? Of self hatred? What kind of freedom would the women of God experience? How much distraction would fall away? What would that lack of clutter leave room for? Would there be less judging, criticizing, competing?

I’m convinced that if we all choose to believe what God speaks over our bodies:
very good,
temples of His Spirit,
vessels for His work,
We would serve ourselves, others, and our God a whole lot better.
We would be a lot less bound.
We would look a lot more like Tam.
Man I want that.

We are looking forward to sharing with you guys what we learn in this study. Where it takes us. And what we lose along the way. What if losing 10 pounds isn’t the blessing? What if losing all the shame is?

He called us very good. Let’s believe it.

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

How many times have you tried to figure out what the plans are that the Lord has for your life? Sitting there day in and day out asking for a sign. "Lord, show me which way to go." "Lord, what are your plans for me?"

We all have that innate calling. Maybe you’re still trying to figure out exactly what that is. Or maybe you get nudges here and there. You intuitively feel drawn to something but you’re not sure how to or where to start. Thankfully we can ask the Holy Spirit for guidance along the way, trusting His voice inside us. It takes practice. It takes falling down and getting back up.

And it’s really not as complicated or as complex as we make it to be.

God’s plans for us are already laid out in this scripture. Plans to prosper us, not to harm. Plans to give us hope. Plans for a future.

What if we stopped trying to figure it all out and made a daily choice to put one foot in front of the other. A daily choice to not sit idly while we wait, but to move so that God can do what He plans.

According to this scripture, God’s path for your life can hold two different outcomes.

If we’re on the road He has mapped out before us and we are complete in Him and blameless before Him, that path becomes a form of protection, a fort. However, if we’re on that path and we are only working in our own strength for the things that only we want, ruin awaits. If we’re on the path serving idols, destruction is inevitable.

And if you look at this scripture and think that perfection and striving is what’s required to be complete in Him and innocent before Him then all you’re doing is the latter part of this. You’re exerting yourself in vain.

Completeness in Him and innocence before Him comes from knowing Him. It comes from living a life that tries it’s best to represent Him well. It comes from a heart that repents and does better when it hasn’t done the best job. It comes from someone who takes their desires to the Lord and then ultimately says, not my will Lord but yours be done. Completeness and innocence comes when we realize we can’t do any of this in our power but only through the power of Christ in us.

If you’re walking God’s path and you’re killing yourself trying to please others, trying to obtain the things of this world, trying to get yourself ahead, it’s going to wind up being a dead end. He never intended for us to live that way.

Stay the course, but do it wrapped up in Him. Because then the course becomes a place of protection. This road may not always be easy or free from harm but He will be your safe place.

I know we hear stuff all of the time like, “You can’t pour from an empty cup.” Or maybe it sounds like, “you have to fill yourself up before you can fill others.” The word of God sometimes contradicts those catchy phrases we hear in our culture these days.

Look at your life. Where is there excess? Which areas have a deficit?

If you don’t have a whole lot of time, are you using the precious minutes/seconds that you do have talking to God?
If there’s a lack of patience and longsuffering, are you doing it anyway when it comes to the things God has said you must wait for?
If you feel so angry you could burst, are you going out of your way to show compassion to others?

It means a lot more when it comes from the deficit. If you’re only ever giving from the excess, you’re doing it wrong. It’s when we give from the deficit, from the places of poverty in our lives, that we activate faith. That’s where we show our reliance on Jesus. On His Holy Spirit. That’s what He ultimately wants to see anyway.

He doesn’t want from the excess.
He wants the last bit from where you feel you have nothing left.

Do people linger around you?

I’ve been asking myself this lately.

Do people linger around me? Do the people I serve want to be near me? Do they want to hear from me? Do the people that don’t have to remain in my presence even want to?

I’m in a unique season of living out the consequences of my own disobedience lately. My frustration and disappointment in myself from the constant reminder that I stepped out of God’s will, has caused me to be grouchy, impatient, and not so pleasant. My kids and my husband who usually live life in my lap have been scattering some afternoons. It kills me.

I was reading in 1Kings chapter 10. It’s when the Queen of Sheba, who doesn’t worship God, goes to visit King Solomon, who does. She had heard of his wealth and wisdom and wanted to test him with hard questions. She does just that and experiences all the things she’s heard about him. But when she speaks to Solomon she tells him his wisdom and prosperity exceeded the report and then she says:

“How happy are your men. How happy are these servants of yours who always stand in your presence hearing your wisdom. Blessed be the Lord your God!” (Verses 8-9)

She notices that the people surrounding him are happy. That they linger. That they listen.

And it causes her to glorify God.

Wow.

I want there to be a desire to linger around me. I want my people happy because of their relationship to me. And most of all, I want God to get all the glory for it.

Riches and wisdom and prosperity are pretty cool.

But people that linger, that says something about God. In you.

03/17/2022

When God gives us a promise, most of the time, we have to wait. In the waiting, He is wanting to prepare us for what He has set before us. He wants to be sure that when we finally get to experience what it is we are longing for, we don’t misuse it or not appreciate it to its fullness.

I had been on a journey for an entire year wanting to buy a house. It felt like a decade. Every time I turned a corner there was an obstacle staring back at me. I was also in the midst of a divorce and there were things that needed to be settled before I could be approved for a loan.

At the beginning of this process, God reminded me of Esther and the preparation she went through just to be presented to the King. Esther underwent a cleansing process for 12 months, an entire year, before her outward appearance was acceptable to stand in front of King Ahasuerus. God was telling me that my heart needed to undergo a cleansing. On the outside, it appeared as though I was handling certain situations with grace and love but on the inside my heart was brewing a horrible stench.

If you’ve ever bought a house then you know the heartbreak of seeing a house you love and then the next day it’s off the market. Over and over again this would happen until God reminded me that everything has its own timing and the timing of everything is perfect according to His greater plan. My longing for a home had to align with God’s desires for my home. So I prepared. I prepared myself financially to afford a home and I also did the heart work.

One way that God speaks to me is through numbers. At this time, the number ‘222’ kept recurring on a daily basis. Whether I would see it on a billboard, checking out at the store, or on my girls’ toy register – it was everywhere. What I found was that the number 2 conveys the meaning of a union. What really stood out to me was the comparison of the Old Testament and the New Testament. In the Old Testament physical circumcision was required in order to be considered part of God's people, while the New Testament requires circumcision of the heart. I realized 222 was trying to show me that there was more to be done with the circumcising of my heart.

But I continued to stand on the promise that God gave me a year prior in 2 Samuel 7:29 “For you, O Lord God, have spoken, and with your blessing shall the house of your servant be blessed forever,” and again, I continued to prepare.

One morning while reading my Bible, He brought me to Joshua chapter 6. This is the story about the Walls of Jericho. Joshua 6:3-5 “You shall march around the city, all the men of war going around the city once. Thus shall you do for six days. Seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark. On the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times and the priests shall blow the trumpets. And when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, when you hear the sound of the trumpet, then all the people shall shout with a great shout, and the wall of the city will fall down flat.”

If you guessed that I took this literal and drove around the city of Houma once a day for six days and then seven times on the seventh day, then you guessed right! I was desperate for these walls to fall. The walls of my heart. The walls blocking me from receiving my promise.

I prayed all the while I drove. On my seventh day riding around Houma, on my final trip around the city, the lightning struck and the thunder rolled (or you can say the trumpets blared). I let out a great shout and immediately after noticed the numbers ‘777’ on the side of the road. 7, the number of completion and perfection!

A few days later this cute house, down a quiet street with a fenced in backyard and a great price was put on the market. The owner of the house and her realtor had been praying just as my realtor and I had. I’m not going to say that it was smooth sailing from here because it absolutely was not. But God was in it, and with His blessing, I now call this house my home.
