A message from our District Superintendent:
"There was some big news that hit the airwaves last Friday regarding the United Methodist Church. A diverse group of 16 leaders within the United Methodist Church drafted a document entitled, "Protocol of Reconciliation and Grace through Separation.” The Protocol outlines some general provisions for an amicable separation within the UMC. I think all of you are aware that no action has been taken by the United Methodist Church related to separation. This is a proposal that will have accompanying legislation to be considered at the 2020 General Conference in Minneapolis from May 5-15. However, it is a serious proposal by highly respected leaders of our church who represent the significant theological breadth of the UMC. While I have not fully digested all of the implications and possible scenarios of this proposal, I believe it does merit a deep conversation. Therefore, I am inviting all of the CND clergy and Lay Delegates to Annual Conference to attend a session at our District Leadership Training on January 26th entitled, “Piloting through the Present Protocol.” The Leadership Training Event will include our normal training and best practices conversations for administrative groups and some program specialists, as well as a plenary presentation by Morris Matthis on Alternative Faith Communities that are reaching people who are hesitant to be reached with the Gospel through conventional church doors. I hope you will encourage the appropriate leaders to attend these workshops and plenary presentation. I also hope that you and all delegates to Annual Conference (church delegates and at-large district delegates) will be present for our discussion on Piloting through the Present Protocol."
