⛪️⛪️ It was a blessing to gather together and dig into the Word this past week. We hope this recap encourages you to reflect on what was shared and carry it with you into this weekend.
Summary: The sermon explored the account found in Luke chapter 7, in which a sinful woman enters the home of Simon the Pharisee and, in an act of profound gratitude, weeps at the feet of Jesus, anointing them with expensive ointment and wiping them with her hair. Through the contrasting responses of Simon and Jesus to this woman, we were challenged to examine how we see the people around us - particularly those who are forgotten, marginalized, or burdened by guilt and shame - and whether we see them through the eyes of judgment or the eyes of compassion.
Takeaways:
Simon saw a sinner to be shunned; Jesus saw a person of worth in desperate need of forgiveness and love. We are called to examine our own instinct to look away from those who make us uncomfortable and instead choose to see them the way Christ sees us.
What we celebrate says a lot about us. This woman was celebrating forgiveness and freedom from guilt and shame. When we have truly been touched by the grace of Jesus, it becomes a cause for genuine, heartfelt celebration and worship.
We are the hands and feet of Jesus to a hurting world. Just as the volunteers in our Connecting Hearts ministry have demonstrated through something as simple as caring for neglected hands, acts of compassion and personal touch can communicate the love of Christ in powerful and lasting ways.
We close with the reminder from John 3:17, which tells us that God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him. Jesus sees each of us fully and loves us completely. May that truth move us to turn and see others with that same grace.
