When Satan can wind you up like a wind up toy and set you loose to destroy...
Your power is used to do his bidding. You became a labor saver.

This is why wisdom and critical Holy Spirit led thinking are mandates for the believer.

If you listen to the reasoning of your mind over the voice of the Holy Spirit, you are close to being manipulated.

Likewise, getting caught up in your emotions equals the same. You are deifying tools within you, giving them the final say. They cannot be trusted as the voice of God. This is self idolatry. And is used by your enemy everyday. It is part of a path of high mindedness and thinking more highly of yourself than you have a right to think.

This doesn't mean that you are less than a child of God, but the difference stands in the way that you think, being self elevated in lust and pride rather than meekness and love.

Man was given dominion over the earth. He gave it to Satan. Jesus took it back, and gave it to members of His body.

When we close our ears to the voice of God and instead listen to the voice of self, we abdicate that authority. We allow the enemy to steer our thinking and emotions towards destruction. We give way to infighting rather than unity. Hurt feelings and offense take center stage over self sacrifice and compassion.

You become the perfect weapon. Empowered with authority by God, but misdirected by an enemy speaking to your soul. (That's your mind, will and emotions...)

Take back your authority. Stop listening to doubt and fear and pride in your mind and be stayed on God's voice. Do not allow yourself to be manipulated to hurt others, and refuse to take up the offense that threatens to hurt you. Self control comes from God by grace- begin to exercise it today, focus your mind and heart on communing with God every time you are tempted to jump on your rollercoaster. There are at least two: your uncontrolled thoughts and your unbridled emotions. Both will take you off the rails into oblivion, if you do not deliberately choose to steer them yourself.

The gift of the Holy Spirit includes controlling yourself. (and not others!) So, knowing this, rely on Him in prayer and meditate in His word, following His voice. Not just occasionally, but every day. Every time the temptation arises, turn to Him. Refuse to be used by evil ones to cause destruction.

The church was meant to be a body of believers who worship God together, encourage and help each other, work to build others up. A close, loving community of people who desire the best and believe the best of the Father towards their fellow man.

Somewhere along the way, we got caught up in ritual, in habit, and traded real communion with Christ for comfort in our works.

Nothing wrong with comfort, really. But when a crying child during a church service offends you and ruins your day, when someone else took "your" seat, when the worship music "just isn't hitting like it should"... Let me be the one to tell you, you missed the whole point.

When you can't have a reasonable conversation about your faith because you (or someone else) may get offended, you missed the point.

Thousand-person revivals have been happening across the world, like the nations of Africa for decades. Outdoors, in the bush, in the heat, no chairs, no air conditioning, no contemporary music. Just people desperate for a loving Father and earnestly wanting to live as the church.
Crying babies haven't stopped them. Hungry bellies, sweaty unwashed bodies, mud caked feet haven't either. They have desired the love of the One who would die for them.

You don't have to be poor, and unwashed. But let us learn from these, and become desperate in heart. Desperate to experience God's love for us through His Son. Desperate to share this life with others on the same journey. Desperate to see and show His face to the thousands of lives we touch in a lifetime. Desperate to know our Father, to feel his touch, to have His Spirit within us. And desperate to pass this to all others.

So when he calmed the storms while on the boat with his disciples, Jesus reprimanded the disciples for their unbelief, because they had not comprehended the miracle of the loaves and fishes.

What did catering lunch for 5000 have to do with mastering the storm?

Reading the account of feeding 5000 with a few loaves and fishes, most of us always assume that Jesus multiplied the food. After all, most of us have been taught that in church.

But Jesus blessed the food and broke it up into twelve baskets. It multiplied at the disciples' hands as they handed it out, obeying as Jesus told them to do.

Do you catch the difference?

Discipleship is not just reading a book and reciting a creed.

It is empowering to do the impossible.

Jesus empowered the disciples when He sent them out to heal the sick, cast out demons, and raise the dead. When they came back to tell the story, they were surprised that it worked! They didn't get it that He gave His power to them.

In feeding the multitude, they didn't understand that He gave His power to them, and that it was the power of God through them that multiplied the food! So when they faced the storm, they still didn't get it. So they cried to him for help. And of course, He helped them.

And then He said, "Really, guys? You still don't get it? Are you not paying attention?" (My paraphrase)

How often do we relinquish our authority, our God-given grace to do the impossible, because we refuse to consider the gift given to us as larger than our circumstances? How often do we starve, waiting for someone else to show up with a miracle? How often do we curse the ground in despair and allow hopelessness to set in when we fail to comprehend the miracle of feeding the multitude, and what it means to the children of God in Christ?

Consider the miracle and what it says about YOU.

Fear and worry are the most useless forms of unbelief. They consume your time, ruin your health, blind you to hope, rob you of decisive action, and dull your faith. They begin by eating what exists in your life now, and then eat up your future by paralyzing your heart, keeping you afraid to step out and trust.

Franklin D Roosevelt said, "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself." And that is a powerful statement. But I would challenge you to give NO place to fear at all. When it slips in, creeping into your thoughts and conversations, STOMP it out of your mind and heart and refuse to allow it space or time in your life!

Focus instead immediately on the Goodness of God! Every good thing that comes to mind, repeat it out loud and give God credit for it. Refocus the laser of your mind on the good- this feeds faith, all the good that you believe about God and know to be true! When you give thanks, you will find joy. Joy in the midst of fear is like sunshine in a dark place. It is a powerful reinforcement.

Don't settle for fear and worry. Kick them out, they are freeloading thieves. Instead, inject thoughts on God's goodness, take time to exercise thankfulness, and spend time in the sunshine of Joy. This is the prescription for an overcomer.

Unchecked fear is a killer. But it is not unstoppable. Remember now that perfect love casts out fear. May the perfect peace of Jesus reign in your hearts.

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." John 16:33 NIV

When we complicate the simple, we distract from and water down the message.

Christ died for the ungodly. So those of us who qualified in that inherit the kingdom of God. Can you believe it? Those that can, recieve. Faith is a response to God's love, that you cant qualify by works, but trusting that love. Thank God He sent Jesus for the sick and ungodly, giving us love and acceptance when we still hated Him.

When God led the Israelites out of the slavery of Egypt, they experienced the miraculous provision of God every day. Manna fell from the sky daily to feed them. Water came from rocks. A cloud covered them during the day and kept them cool. Its easy to look at those miracles and decide that THATS what we want in our lives. Miraculous provision. But God's plan was not to keep them in a desert living off of manna forever.

Its easy to forget that repentance is a response to forgiveness. not a prerequisite.

Bob Dylan wrote a song called "Gotta serve Somebody". He makes the point in it that no matter who you are, you are already serving someone. Even if its just serving yourself, your actions are serving someone else's bigger interests. Man was built to serve. The question is: Since you are serving someone, who will you serve? Will you serve a master who wants you to die as lonely, horribly painfully as possible, cut off from all help? Or would you rather serve a master who loves you and wants you healthy, and for you to have your best at all times?

Do you live in a constant awareness of lack? It can be like a poison, slowly permeating every part of your life. Jesus said he came to give us life, and to give it to us more abundantly...
