Woodycrest United Methodist Church

Woodycrest United Methodist Church Sunday Morning Worship has Resumed 10am. Come out and be Blessed. Woodycrest was founded as a result of the death bed wish of Mrs. David W.

Elizabeth Worrell Jones, a Christian woman and believer in the Methodist Church. Her request was for the establishment of a Methodist Church and Sunday school in the Highbridge community of the Bronx. Woodycrest was officially organized on October 10, 1910 in a movie theater on Ogden Avenue by Rev. Couch, the first pastor of the church and Rev. Jacob Price, pastor of Washington Heights Church. Lot

s were purchased at 166th street and Nelson Avenue and soon afterward plans were drafted for a new building and this church building was finally erected and a congregation has been worshipping here ever since. Highbridge has changed significantly over the years but this church has always been able to adapt to the needs of the community. As people who love and serve Christ, we look to the future with hope and optimism as we continue with our mission to open our hearts and doors to this beloved community.
