In Memoriam: The Right Reverend Dr. Christopher Senyonjo (1931โ2026)
***
Today, Metropolitan Community Churches honor the life and legacy of Bishop Christopher Senyonjoโa fearless prophet of inclusion, courageous shepherd, and champion for LGBTQ+ rights in Uganda.
When standing for justice meant facing opposition and loss, Bishop Senyonjo chose love over doctrine, opening safe spaces for rejected youth and boldly proclaiming that Godโs love excludes no one.
MCC had the privilege of welcoming Bishop Senyonjo to the 2013 UFMCC General Conference in Chicago, where his powerful presence reminded us that our fight for spiritual liberation knows no borders.
"Whatever our culture, whatever our religion, God loves you as you are."

Rev. Uthasyo Michael Kimindu, Pastor of Neema MCC in Kenya, shares the following tribute:
"Bishop Ssenyonjo was a pillar of LGBTQ+ rights advocacy in Uganda and East Africa. At the height of the crackdown on LGBTQ+ people in 2009, he stood firm with the community.
He conducted the burial of David Kato, a gay activist who was murdered for his advocacy for gay rights in Uganda.
We pray to God that the gap he has left be filled. We stand with our brothers and sisters in Uganda. In Kenya, we have lost a source of encouragement. Rest in Peace, Bishop Ssenyonjo."
