Happy Good Friday! As we mourn the death of our savior Jesus Christ, we must remember that His sacrifice is a reflection of God's love for us. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son to us (John 3:16).

What a privilege to be loved so deeply by the King of kings!

We are at the end of our first official week of Lent! How are you feeling?
Let us remember "having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and out bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful" (Heb. 10:21-23).

Today is the first day of Lent! So why Ash Wednesday? The wording comes from the story of the fall of man to his sinful state; "Remember, man, that you are dust and to dust your shall return (Gen. 2:7, 3:17). For this reason, the early church sprinkled ash on the heads of repented sinners.

As we learn more about Lent, let us not forget that this period follows the example that Jesus Christ gave to us by spending 40 days in the desert before starting His ministry publicly (Matt.4:1-3).

So how can you participate in Lent?
1. Meditate: Spend 10-15 minutes with the Word of God everyday.
2. Pray: Remember to bring your burdens, sins and short to the LORD.
3. Fast: Find something you rely on frequently and deny yourself for a set time within the day. Is it food? your phone? sugar?

So, what are you planning to deny yourself this Lent period?

As we prepare our hearts and minds to remember the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ, let us remember Lent is a period of reflection, prayer and fasting. This 40 day period begins on Ash Wednesday (Wednesday, February 18th).

40 days has been a significant time period in the life of a believer since Biblical times:
1. Noah waited 40 days and night in the ark with his family(Gen. 7:12)
2. Moses spent 40 days at Mount Sinai (Exo. 34:28)
3. Elijah received 40 days of strength from a single meal he ate (1st Kings 19:8)
4. Jesus was in the wilderness for 40 days (Matthew 4:2)
5. The Disciples received the Holy Spirit 40 days after the resurrection of Jesus Christ (Acts 1:3).

With this in mind, are your ready for Lent?!
