John’s UMC in Texas City has been open to the residents of the surrounding community by providing a place to worship, fellowship and inviting others to follow Jesus Christ. In 1991 we added a Family Life center that boasted a gym, kitchen facilities, and more classrooms. On September 10, 2009 The original St. John's UMC building was destroyed by a devastating fire. The Family Life Center sustaine
d considerable damage as well and was torn down as a result. http://youtu.be/dR4ya5_yGZg . John's congregation voted to purchase 14 acres on the north side of Texas City, in an area that was not unlike our first home. Our first home was on the outskirts of the city in an areawith a new development to homes and schools alike. Today St. John's has since completed a new multi-use building that has a grand kitchen and cafe, A tree-house club area designed specifically for children of all ages with a covered outdoor playground. Our Youth and Young adults have a lounge and fellowship area called the FOUNDRY with couches, multimedia sound system, and a outdoor basketball court and fire pit. Several Conference\classrooms are also through out the building and a private choir rehearsal room. Our sanctuary seats close to 250 people and has a state of the art sound and multimedia capabilities. The sanctuary can be converted into seating for dinner or any other special event. Our new home has provided a canvas to explore and share the news of Jesus Christ with our community and neighbors. We have 2 growing church services on Sunday as well as a kids program and Sunday school. We have MANY events and small group studies through out the week so check us out and get "PLUGGED IN"! John's belongs to the South District of the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. John's shares in the worldwide mission of the United Methodist Church by giving regularly to denominational benevolences. Our membership is drawn not only from Texas City, but from nearby communities including La Marque, Hitchcock, Santa Fe, Galveston, Dickinson, and League City.
