A Message from our Associate Pastor | Minister of Families, Dennis Johns

I love summer @ FBCTC. It is one of the most active times of the year, and it also happens to be a great time for refreshment, retreat, excitement, and exposure to Kingdom principles in a fun and focused atmosphere. This summer we have a few opportunities to experience this excitement, and it all continues this Saturday as we send 56 children and adults off to Pineywoods Camp! Pre-Teen Camp is a Saturday through Tuesday (3 nights) sleep away camp for those students who have completed 3rd – 6th Grades. It is jam-packed with high-energy activities, awesome grade-level worship services, Bible studies, mission adventures, and much more.

The theme for Pr***en camp (and Youth Camp later in the summer), “100% All In,” emphasizes that followers of Jesus should not follow Jesus half-heartedly. Christianity is an “all or nothing” faith.

Then Monday 14 FBCTC students will travel to Dallas Baptist University for Super Summer, a jam-packed week of discipleship and leadership preparation led by some of the finest leaders from churches across Texas.

The theme for Super Summer is “Once and for all” focusing on the finished work of Christ through His crucifixion and resurrection. Christ’s victory over sin & death makes it possible for fallen sinners to receive new life in Christ and to live in the freedom of the victory that Jesus has won.

I believe it’s no coincidence that both themes involve emphasis on total commitment to our faith. Sadly, some have turned the practice of Christianity into a hobby to be pursued when nothing else interferes. Some view it as the last resort when all else fails. Please pray that Pr***en/Youth Camp and Super Summer will be a time of awakening and transformation.
May we continue to seek renewal and be reminded each day of the importance of the Gospel -He Came, He died, He was buried, He arose, He ascended, He’s coming back! It really does matter. What difference has it made in your life?

Who are you sharing that with? It really does matter. Why not stop doubting and believe? He went 100% for us. Why not go “ALL IN” for Him?

A Message from our Senior Pastor, Pierce Eaton:

Church,

The Christian life was never meant to be small, dull, or reduced to routine. Yet if we’re honest, even the most mature believer can slowly drift into a kind of spiritual autopilot, where we believe the right things, attend church, and go through the motions, but lose the sense of awe, purpose, and wonder that once stirred our hearts. In those seasons, we can forget that God has not only saved us from something, He has saved us for something. He has shaped our lives for a grand, beautiful, God-glorifying purpose that reaches into every part of who we are.

That is why I am really excited about June and our Made 4 More sermon and Bible study series. Over the past weeks, I have been praying through and preparing this material, and I want you to know it has deeply stirred my heart. I believe God is going to use this series to do something fresh and beautiful in our church.

Made 4 More is more than a sermon series. It is a churchwide journey through God’s Word. I have written a Bible study curriculum for our groups that is intentionally designed to align with each Sunday’s sermon. The sermons and Bible studies are meant to work together as one unified experience.

And I truly believe this: if you engage both, you will not experience this series in the same way you would by only attending one. God is doing something intentional among us, and I do not want anyone to miss it.

So let me strongly encourage you, make space this June to be in a Bible study group. Clear your schedule. Prioritize it. Lean in. Let God use His Word, His people, and this season to awaken again a sense of purpose and joy in Christ.

We have Sunday Bible studies at 8:15 am, 9:30 am, and 11:00 am, and Wednesday Bible studies at 6:00 pm.

A Message from our Children’s Minister, Meschel Hara:

Vacation Bible School is almost here! This year’s theme is Rainforest Falls. Kids will step into a rainforest overflowing with wild waterfalls, towering trees and colorful creatures. Beneath a canopy of chattering birds and howling monkeys, kids will plunge into a lifelong adventure of discovering the nature of God. They’ll explore what it means to be rooted in a relationship with God, their creator, a safe place in life’s storms.

Don’t miss out on the excitement of serving at this year’s VBS! There’s so many opportunities to help make VBS unforgettable and bring the gospel to life for our kids. Stop by the VBS table in the Connection Corner, grab and fill out a volunteer registration form and place it in the offering box/plate or you can register online. VBS is scheduled for June 22 – 25, 8:45am til noon.

We grew by 100 kids last year, yay! Therefore, we have created extra classes this year to help keep our class sizes down so that kids have the best experience and get the most out of their time at VBS.

Whatever gift God has blessed you with, we have a spot for you! Sign up today! It will be the best week of your summer!

Invite your family, friends and neighbors to experience VBS! It’s for 4 year olds through those that are finishing up 6th grade. Families can register online through June 17th. If they miss the online registration, they can register in person on Monday morning, June 22nd starting at 8:15am.

We also have an afternoon option to make it a full day of fun. Sports Camp is also available for a $80 registration fee for students currently in 1st - 6th grades.

We can’t wait to see how God moves at this year’s VBS!

The Intern

Summer is an awesome time here at FBCTC. Many awesome events dot the calendar of summer and one of our favorite things of the season is having Interns to partner in ministry. It has been a long tradition of ministry at FBCTC, and they leave here to serve God in other capacities as, pastors, worship leaders, schoolteachers, ministry leaders, missionaries, police officers, entertainers, principals, as well as active participants in the Kingdom of God.

This Summer we will continue our student leadership focus that invites High School seniors and recent grads to invest their summer in FBCTC Family Ministry, we call them “Minterns” or lovingly Mini- Interns. This leadership team is designed to assist students in developing a love of serving God through the day-to-day activities and summer events of FBCTC’s Family Ministry with a focus on discipleship and community. You will see them all over the place as they invest in the future of FBCTC and the Kingdom.

We have expanded our Intern staff this summer and are excited to have 5 young adults partnering with our Family Ministry for a huge summer success. We have two Children’s Interns Brooke Bigford and Bret Jones. Brooke is Santa Fe HS class of 2020 and graduated from Houston Christian University in 2024 with a degree in Psychology. She currently is employed with the Baptist Student Ministry as she serves and ministers to college students in the Galveston area. She has also been active here at FBCTC in Children’s and Music ministries since she joined.

Bret is a 2025 grad of Clear Creek HS. He is pursuing a degree in Sports Business at Stephen F. Austin University (SFA). He loves all things Star Wars and is a sports lover as well. You can find him and the other guy interns playing Monday night softball this summer on an FBCTC team “The Chosen Ones” in the Friendswood Parks and Rec League.

We are excited to welcome back home this time as Student Ministry Interns, Ari Rodriguez and Cole Gillikin who both served in our Mintern ministry last summer. Ari is a Clear Springs Class of ’25 grad and currently is attending SFA pursuing a degree in History Education. Interesting fact: Ari can recite the first two “Pitch Perfect” riff offs almost from memory – She will give Brad Jackson a run for his money!

Cole is also a 2025 grad of Clear Springs HS. He is pursuing a degree in Business at SFA, and his future plans revolve around his passion for knowing God and making Him known. Seminary will most likely be his next avenue to a path in continuing ministry. He says that he can almost back flip – not sure I really want to see the result of “almost.”

We also welcome back home Tarryn Goldner. He is a Clear Falls grad (Class of ’21) New York University graduate (Class of 25) with a degree in Music Performance and current University of Georgia Grad student. Tarryn’s desire is to activate, facilitate, equip, and strengthen the Young Adult Ministry in our area and has a great plan in place. He will again serve as our Family Ministry Coordinator and assist with discipleship and leadership in the Student Ministry. You will find him drumming on the platform most Sundays and helping all around. Tarryn adds energy to any and every situation, sometimes it’s better to keep him in the cage (drum cage).

Our Minterns student leaders are;
Nicholas Cantrell – Texas City HS Class of ‘26
Reece Crow – Clear Springs HS Class of ‘26
Alexis Barefield – Texas City HS Sr Class of ‘27
Emma Davis – Texas City HS Class of ‘27

I invite you to be a part of summer ministry by volunteering or at least getting to know the FBCTC Summer Staff. Pray for them, encourage them, buy them a soda, invite them to your home for lunch or out for a meal, or however you can, don’t miss out, join us in this exciting season.

From our Children's Minister, Meschel Hara:
Our church will be participating in Servolution Mainland again this year on Saturday, May 2nd, from 9am – Noon. Since 2019 we have been combining with other area churches on the first Saturday of May to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our community. Jesus modeled serving others by washing the disciples’ feet. He said in Mark 10:43-45 that whoever will be great must be a servant and whoever would be first must be a slave of all. “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

This year we will be partnering with Galveston County Food Bank and 4B Disaster Relief to provide service projects. Projects will include making plarn mats for the homeless, sorting food at Galveston County Food Bank, meal packing and sorting clothes for Chat & Chew, as well as home projects for 4B.
Mark your calendars and plan to participate in this rewarding serving experience that impacts our community in a mighty way.

You can register online through our website and choose the top 3 projects that you would like to participate with.

A Message from Our Associate Pastor | Minister of Families, Dennis Johns:

Beware

We live in a world full of voices—social media stars, influencers, news feeds, memes, friends, self-proclaimed experts, and tons of hot takes. It’s easy to be overwhelmed by the amount of data that is floating through the air waves. The loudest or most popular voice begs for our agreement. It seems harder to determine the truth from the fluff and harder to hear and comprehend what the Bible actually says or how a Christian is to respond in cultural affairs of the day.

In this age of confusion, TikToks and tweets push quick opinions not carefully thinking. The reality is that complex Biblical thoughts usually don’t fit into 30 second timeframes. Popular athletes, actors, and musicians in most cases should not be seen as Biblical, moral, or even social authorities, just because of their status or platform. Some people twist scripture or “cherry-pick” verses to support a predetermined agenda or to justify their own misdirection. Many continue in the postmodern culture of “truth is negotiable” or truth is relative for everyone, which further fractures the understanding of biblical authority.

I am not here to present an exhaustive study on the search for truth but want to merely reorient our perspective as we are continually exposed to false and misleading narratives that are allowed to have influence in our daily lives. And believe me, it seems that things are getting stranger by the day! Realize that deception is not a new thing, but there are new approaches that have made their way into every area of our lives. Therefore, we must be aware of the influence of misinformation vs truth.

We look to scripture to give us clarity in our search...

1 John 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Philippians 1:9–10 And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ.

Ephesians 5:6–10 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

Proverbs 3:5–6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

We are continually encouraged to participate and protect the practice of studying scripture and growing in knowledge and understanding. Don’t let the world dictate your comprehension of scripture; read, look at context, ask questions, ask for the Holy Spirit’s presence, discuss with your small group or friends, let the truth be something that you investigate and navigate collectively with fellow believers. Include prayerful consideration of who and what you allow to have influence over your thoughts and behavior.

Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

We need truth, to live it and proclaim it now more than ever.
