As parents, one of the most important lessons we can teach our sons is to stand firm and be prepared when temptation comes. Ephesians 6 instructs us to, "be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might. Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil."

Boys and men need a battle plan when temptation comes so they are prepared to stand their ground and R.E.S.I.S.T. Trail Life Troop NC-0834 was backpacking in the Uwharrie Mountains when suddenly and unexpectedly their skills were put to the test.

Around 9:30pm Saturday night the 1st Officer noticed a red glow up the mountain. Curious, the Troop headed up the mountain to discover the source. To their dismay, they discovered a forest fire that was about 75 feet in diameter. The adult leaders took action and quickly contacted local authorities.

Due to the remote area in which the fire occurred, it took nearly two hours for the forest service to reach the area. By the time they arrived, thanks to Troop NC-0834, there was nothing left for them to do. The forest service expressed their appreciation to the group.

"That forest fire was a real scare," said one adult troop leader. "It was great to see all the adults and youth pull together. We saved acres from burning down."

The official state of Texas cooking Implement is the cast iron Dutch oven, which became the official state cooking implement of Texas when Governor Rick Perry signed Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 9 on June 18, 2005. No kidding. Here we see a cowboy cook on the SMS ranch using a cast-iron Dutch oven in its native Texas environment. 😉

On the 20th anniversary of such a tragic event, we're remembering all those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 and praying for all whose lives were forever changed by the tragedy of that day. The Bible calls us to, "rejoice with those who rejoice; [and] mourn with those who mourn” (Romans 12:15, NIV), so today, let's commit to mourning with those who are still grieving.

Trail Life USA encourages boys to dream big with a variety of activities meant to build , inspire , and grow meaningful relationships with mentors, with other boys, and with Christ.

"As the new year begins, each Trail Life Troop gathers to about new adventures they will enjoy that year,” quipped Trail Life CEO Mark Hancock. “In Troop ID-4:12, someone tossed out the idea of building a fishing boat. Instead of dismissing the idea, Troop leaders wrote it on the list. Soon the seemingly outlandish idea began to gain traction."

After months of work cutting, seasoning, planning, milling, building, and assembling, the boys spent the final night applying finishing touches to the fiberglass, adding final coats to the hull, and working on a 5-hp outboard motor. The next morning, they hauled the boat to the water for a test drive. The research and hard work paid off. The boat worked flawlessly!

Projects like this one explempify Trail Life USA's focus on Letting Boys Be Boys inspiring: creativity, determination, growth, camaraderie, and the thrill of completed adventure.
