Caddo Area Friends Meeting

Caddo Area Friends Meeting Quaker meeting in Texarkana serving the four states area. The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) originated in the United Kingdom in the 17th century.

Our work and worship arise from a belief that we all receive from God a measure of inner essence that both connects us to Him and to each other. Caddo Area Friends Meeting is a Friends General Conference affiliate, and a part of South Central Yearly Meeting. Postings on this page are social media and should not considered to be the official position of the meeting.

There is a great deal of reading material on the syllabus for Pacifism 101, but this commitment card from the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights is nice and short.

The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) was founded in 1917 by a group of Philadelphia Quakers and other pacifist faiths seeking an alternative to the military draft.

As conscientious objectors, they were able to provide aid like medical supplies, clothing, food, and more to those impacted by war.

In 1947, AFSC was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of all Quakers “for their pioneering work in the international peace movement and compassionate effort to relieve human suffering, thereby promoting the fraternity between nations”. ()

Stop by Arch Street Meeting House today to learn more about AFSC and other change makers in Quaker history!
