St. Paul United Methodist Church - Temple, TX United Methodist Church serving Temple, Texas. n April of 1952, a survey under the direction of the Methodist Board of Missions was conducted. Rev.

The results of the survey indicated sufficient interest for a Methodist Church to be located in southwest Temple. On Sunday, May 4, thirty-four people assembled at the VFW building. Ten days later a steering committee met where officers were elected and a temporary name for the new church was chosen, The South West Methodist Church. By the end of May 1952, a Church School was organized. Robert Ogl

esby was appointed as the first pastor in June 1952. The church then became known as St. Paul Methodist Church with forty charter members. By 1954 a building committee was elected and architects were instructed to complete the plans for a building; the estimated cost was $17,500. On November 14, 1954, ground breaking was held and the congregation was on its way to having a permanent home. The church was to be located on 3.1 acres of ground at the corner of 49th and Avenue P. On the first Sunday in December 1954 Rev. Michael Patison conducted the first worship service in the new building. In April 1962 ground breaking for an educational wing of eleven classrooms, a complete remodeling of the existing building with the enlargement of the sanctuary and installation of pews was held. In June 1974 the fellowship hall and office space was completed. After the untimely death of Rev. Bill Easley in the fall of 1987, a new parking lot was paved in his honor. During 1953 a parsonage was purchased on South 37th Street. This served as the residence for the pastor for nineteen years. In 1972 the present parsonage on El Camino Drive was purchased.
