Hello Everyone. I want to introduce my youngest granddaughter to you. This is Katriona (Little Kat). She has a rare disorder known as Edwards Syndrome, think of it as Down Syndrome's relative. The clinical term for this is TRISOMY 18. It was when a person is born with three chromosomes of sequence 18. We have been preoccupied with prayer and thoughts about our Little Kat.

This condition will cause her life here to end very soon. Our faith in Christ Jesus gives us great comfort at this time, and we do not grieve as if we have no hope. Jesus said it is not the will of the Father that even one little one would perish. She belongs to the Lord, and when her time here ends, she will be with Him. Her body is temporary, like all of ours. The Word of God tells us we will be exchanging the corrupt for the incorruptible. I encourage you to search the scriptures to see whether what I am saying is true, and to verify for yourself, so that you too can have the peace of the Lord that goes beyond understanding.

We pray that should the Lord choose to use Little Kat and heal her as a sign for those who do not believe, then we will rejoice and praise the name of the Lord our God. We will also praise His name if and when she crosses over to the unseen realm.

Sign gifts are a way the Lord draws a non-believer's attention. They also strengthen and build up His body. We pray for healing for Little Kat, whether that comes in this life or in eternity, we rejoice in the precious gift we have received.

Thank you,

The Whole Armor of God

Praise the name of the Lord! Today, we will tie the armor together. Armor is designed to provide protection against attack. The armor of God is no different. The attack is. The battle we face is not against flesh and blood (Eph 6:12). We wrestle spiritual adversaries, and so the armor must be spiritual in nature.

Truth stands against lies and deception. The devil has been a liar and murderer from the beginning. Deception is his favorite weapon. The deception is to counterfeit the truth. The use of the same words but with a twisted meaning. The deception will sound good, the words like honey, but they are poison. The word of God is the truth. This is the belt, the piece of armor that holds all others in place.

When we trade the truth of God for a lie, our hearts turn toward unrighteousness. When we know the truth of God and hold it in our hearts, we walk in righteousness. Our hearts are kept inside the breastplate that shields us from sinful desires. The belt covers the loins, breastplate, heart, and lungs. Our vital organs are protected by truth and righteousness. Our desires stay true, and they lead us to do what is right and live rightly before God.

Solid footing gives strength and balance. Agility begins with proper footwork. Bad shoes cause instability, poor balance, and loss of agility. The gospel of peace gives us a proper footing so we can stand firm in the ways of the Lord. Walking uprightly, knowing our feet will not slip. There is peace in knowing that the Lord has prepared your feet to walk in the way He leads you. The peace that goes beyond understanding. Firm footing, balance, and agility in walking in the roughest terrain.

The shield that stands before us is the trust we have in the Lord that He is faithful and true. It is the first line of defense. When we place our full confidence in Him, the attacks of the enemy that bring doubt are extinguished. We stand together in this wall and phalanx as one in faith in the Lord. Strengthen one another in this and be a shield for those who are still learning to use their armor.

The head is protected by a helmet. The mind is shielded from deception and distractions. Soundness of thought. The salvation of the Lord is our strength for a sound mind. No longer darkened by self-deception or that of the enemy. We can focus on the tasks God has for us, secure in His word that we are redeemed, saved from the penalty of sin, the power of sin, and one day we will be saved from the very presence of sin.

The word of God is the most powerful of the armor. The one thing that is both a guard and a strike against the attacker. The word of God can also be used as a surgeon's tool to bring healing. It is always at hand, ready and able to do all that the Lord has said. The word of the Lord never fails.

The armor has pieces, but it works as a whole, a single unit. So, I pray that as you grow in the Lord, His Spirit increases your strength and abilities to stand firm and join with others in their stand as we walk in love and agreement with one another.

Dressed for Battle: The Sword of The Spirit

Grace and peace to you in the name of God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, in whom we are blessed with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places. I pray that our knowledge of God increases as we look to the word of God to renew our minds and align us with His will.

“And the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Eph 6:17b” The next piece of armor is the one piece that can be used for both defense and offense—the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. I write a great deal about reading and studying the Word of God daily because of its vital importance. When Jesus began His ministry, He was led into the desert after His baptism. There He was tested by the devil. With each test, he responded with the Word of God, “it is written” (Matt 4:4, 7, 10). Three of the gospel accounts record this for us. This is not the only time Jesus quoted from Scripture.

“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” (Heb 4:12) The word of God penetrates and gets to the heart of a matter. When we read the beginning record of the Acts of the Apostles, we find Peter using scriptures to speak to the people, bringing conviction and the good news. Stephen in Acts 7 did the same. Paul, when speaking with the Jews in the synagogues. In the letter we have been studying, we find Paul quoting scripture. King David wrote, “Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You. (Ps 119:11). The Word of God is the piece of armor we are given to use not only against the devil but our flesh, and to persuade others of the need for the Salvation that is found in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Battling with a sword has been seen throughout history. Our entertainment industry has used sword fights as dramatic clashes between the good guy and the bad guy. “The Court Jester,” a movie with Danny Kaye and Basil Rathbone, has a dramatic duel between the two. Between the characters, one, Rathbone’s, was the master of sword fighting; Kaye’s was utterly incompetent. Kay’s character was hypnotized into thinking he was the greatest with a blade. A snap of the fingers brought him in and out of the hypnotic state. We see multiple switches between being the greatest and the worst. When we are not familiar with the Word of God, the Sword of the Spirit, we are at our worst. We are vulnerable to every attack and wind of doctrine and false teaching presented to us. We can be deceived and caught by flattering words (Eph 5:6).

I encourage you to be like the Bereans, searching the scriptures daily. To study the Word of God, testing everything you believe against the Light of the Truth. Pray and speak with the Spirit. He is the teacher, trainer, comforter, and companion who enables you in all things. The Sword of the Spirit is at hand; take up fencing and learn to use this piece of armor with skill and grace.

Dressed for Battle: The Helmet of Salvation

Praise the name of God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Father, we pray and ask that our minds be renewed as we study Your word. By Your Spirit speak into our lives, granting us an increase in the knowledge of You and the Son, Christ Jesus the Lord.

“And take the helmet of salvation…” (Eph 6:17a). The next piece of our armor is the helmet. This is the protection of the head, the mind. A sound mind is one of the great benefits of the Spirit in us (2 Tim 1:7). Paul prayed for the saints in Ephesus that the Father would give them a spirit of wisdom, revelation, and knowledge of Him (Eph 1:17). Like the prayer above to renew our minds through the word of God granting us wisdom and an increase in the knowledge of God our Father and the Son.

“This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.” (Eph 4:17-19) Our salvation is from the penalty of sin, the darkened mind no longer commands, and the sinful desires of the heart cannot compel obedience any longer. These things once bound us, but through the blood of Christ, we are set free and reconciled to God. By His love, we are cleansed with the washing of the word (Eph 5:26). It is the Word of God that renews the mind. The old thoughts and way of thinking changed for the new. The truth of God replaces the lies of the flesh.

“Because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. Rom 1:25.” This is reversed when we receive the Salvation of the Lord, Yeshua is His name, the Salvation of the Lord. This is the helmet that guards our mind. Jonah 2:9 “Salvation belongs to the Lord.” We can rest assured and trust in His word that renews our thoughts, but we must know the word to wash away the old, stinking thinking and bring in the fresh water of the Word of God.

This links directly to the next piece of armor, which is the only one that is for offense, not defense, the Sword of the Spirit, which IS the Word of God. We will look at the sword tomorrow.

The armor of God covers us, but we must put it on. We have all the means to protect against the spiritual forces of darkness that would attack us, working to divide us and make us ineffective, but we must learn the armor and its uses. To do that, we must spend time daily with the Spirit of the Lord, learning and growing in the ways of the Lord. The stronger the relationship with the Spirit, the better we become at working with the armor we are issued. We walk together as a unit, the body and bride of Jesus Christ.

Dressed for Battle: The Shield of Faith

May the grace, peace, and strength of the Lord bless you at all times. Father, we give you praise in all things. Thank you for the Spirit in whom we can trust to teach us all truth and increase in knowledge, understanding, and wisdom.

“In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one.” (Eph 6:16) Frank Turek recently asked on social media, “What is faith?” Some say it is believing something without evidence to support it. One person answered that it is the word used to cover up all the problematic texts of scripture. Neither of these is the right answer. So, what is faith according to scripture?

“Heb 11:1 NKJV - Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” But how is that not blindly believing? The root word in Greek is “pistis”. When we look up the word, the concordance lists "faith". The root's variations include trust, belief, assurance, reliability, genuineness, and confidence. Each of these requires evidence to support the trust, belief, assurance, and so on. The evidence can be tested. The tests can be scientific or non-scientific. The non-scientific method is the way we test the validity of testimony, as in a court case. Science is the process of repeatable testing of a hypothesis. Put a piece of soap in a bowl of water 100 times to prove it will float. Testimony is not tested the same way. The witness statements are evaluated against a set of tests to assess their trustworthiness. Was the witness there at the time of the event? Are there corroborating testimonies? Is there physical evidence confirming the witness was there? Is there evidence that supports or agrees with the testimony?

There is a saying, “I trust them with my life.” Why? What causes a person to trust another with their life? A demonstration of being trustworthy? The person has been there when you needed something, and no one else was there. We all have someone, or perhaps are that someone. The Scriptures are the Testimony of God. The Bible is the revealed and inspired Word of God. The witness statements of His existence, His faithfulness, His trustworthiness. When the claims are examined, we evaluate them and determine whether to trust them, just as we would with anyone else we have a relationship with. Faith is actively trusting the person, God, in this case. What He has said and done.

Paul presented the testimony of the will of God, His good intentions toward us from the beginning, as read in the scriptures. Christ, the Messiah, was sent. He did as the scriptures said He would do. Ephesians chapters 1, 2, and 3. Proclaim our position in Christ, the fulfilment of the promises made by God in the Old Testament. Because of the evidence that we can test, we can be assured that it is true, genuine, authentic, and reliable. The One who said it is worthy of our faith and trust. We can trust Him with our lives. Our faith is not blind belief or vain hope. The trust we have in Him has weight and substance, just like the shield the Roman soldier carried.

Take up the shield of faith, the trust and assurance that in Christ, though we may die, we shall live. The devil seeks to separate us from God. In Christ, that is not possible. We have been assured of that and are sealed for the day of redemption by His Spirit.
