As followers of Christ, we are instructed to live by these simple commandments: to love God and to love each other. Sometimes the word “mission” makes us think of mission trips overseas to serve a third-world country by supplying resources and Bibles. While those mission trips are good acts, “mission” doesn’t have to be complicated. “Mission” doesn’t only have to be an elaborate trip to help those in need globally; there are also plenty of people in need within our own community. And our mission isn’t just to provide them with resources, but also to love and care for them. What are some ways you can serve AND love your neighbors this week?

Loving God, we love You with every fiber in our being. We are humble recipients of Your love and we live everyday as a testament of Your grace. Use us to minister to those around us, and not just to provide them with resources, but to love them the way You do. We pray they will feel the warmth of Your embrace and feel that they belong in Your kingdom. May we remember that we are not saviors, but merely humble servants of You, our true Savior. May our words and actions bring glory to Your name. Amen.

We welcome back our first guest speaker for Missions Month, Finney! Finney challenged us last Sunday to deeply consider what a “Christ-centered life” looks like. Is it reading a devotional daily? Is it memorizing Scripture? Is it praying and fasting?

How would your life look differently if you totally embodied Christ? Are you fully exemplifying love, grace, kindness, and forgiveness in the name of Jesus? How can we help the Church manifest these qualities more?

🚗🚙 It’s that time of year again - our annual free Trunk-or-Treat event will take place this October 31 on campus at LOCC! From 6:30-8:00pm, we’ll have trick-or-treating, refreshments, the telling of the Great Pumpkin story, and a photo booth! Sign up at our Sunday services to volunteer during the event or to host a trunk. A prize will be given for the best Bible-themed trunk. Invite your friends and family; all are welcome! God performed a miracle through Peter to heal a man, and in doing so, touched the lives of many. Peter saw the lame beggar at the temple, and while Peter didn’t have any money to give him, he offered the healing and blessing of God upon the man. Peter had faith that God would provide for him and for everyone around him. The man believed that the power of God was real, and he received healing and salvation. And the other people were witnesses to this miracle and were amazed by God’s power. God’s power is infinite and we are the channels to help spread it so that the world may receive His blessing.

Almighty God, we are blessed to be in Your capable hands. We thank You for all the ways You have provided for us and we have faith that You will continue to do so. May we go out into the world knowing that You are with us every step of the way. Wherever we go, may Your power and blessing flow through us, so that others may come to know You. Amen.

Welcome to Missions Month! We kick it off with a passage from Luke depicting Jesus sending out His disciples to spread the gospel. God has a special mission for each and every one of us. And Jesus admits to His own disciples that it’s not going to be easy, but thankfully, we can put our faith in God to provide for us. It’s not our job to worry about the details and logistics - God will take care of it. Our job is to simply spread God’s love and mercy wherever we go, to wish peace upon everyone we come across. In this dark world, there are a lot of people who are hurting, and they’ve been searching for a source of hope. It’s up to us to love these people the way God does so that they can come into God’s embrace.

Peaceful Protector, we thank You for Your love and mercy. We hear Your calling for us, and we put our faith in You to see us through to the end as we, Your humble messengers, dutifully follow the path You have laid before us. Let Your love and grace shine through us. May our words and actions to those we interact with direct them to You, Lord. We are excited to welcome more brothers and sisters into our heavenly family. Amen.

The next installment of our social media series, “Foundations”, transitions to the other leadership teams at LOCC 🌳 We feature the Children’s and Youth Ministry Team next!

Meet Jonathan! Jonathan is an Elder at LOCC as the Chair of Education. He serves as a Sunday School teacher and also a Youth Group leader, and, as an Elder, his goal is to strengthen and grow those programs to truly build up the upcoming generations of our brothers and sisters in Christ. Seasoned in youth ministry, Jonathan loves being a part of such a willing supportive community of nurture and care for our LOCC youth. Outside of church, Jonathan is a computer science professor at Mount San Antonio College!
