Surrendered: Letting Go
Day 5
Thanks to Sylvester Warsaw, Jr for our devotional today
It’s in the surrendering of our will daily to God that He’s able to instruct us even though what can be known about God He has already revealed in nature and manifested in man, Rom. 1:18-23. God gave man free will therefore all who are in relationship with Him in and through Christ Jesus are there because they made a conscious decision to be in relationship with Him. Just like Nicodemus went to Jesus freely we also must go to Him freely. God will not compete with our will when you’re set on doing your own thing. Scripture clearly teaches, “The fear/reverence of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction,” Proverbs 1:7. Daily God prepares a table for His children in the presence of our enemy inviting us to sup with Him and He with us providing first and foremost spiritual nourishment equipping us for the day’s journey that allows us to be His living witnesses in the wilderness. Just like Jesus was led into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit we too are led into the wilderness to be God’s agents of change and it’s only in the engagement of life God’s instructions for loving Him first and our neighbor as ourselves is manifested. God’s instructions quiets our spirit, 1 Chronicles 22:9; 1 Thess. 4:11-12; Prov. 10:16-21. In 1912, C. Austin Miles wrote, In The Garden, a song about the daily joy of communing with God being in relationship with Him. One of the verses says that when God speaks the birds even hush their singing! Scripture teaches us that when God spoke to Elijah His voice was quiet like a whisper. In Scripture quietness in our spirit is a representation of God’s peace at work in our life. God’s instructions are an oasis (like the Garden of Eden), our peace in the midst of chaos, of drought, of famine from the lack of truth on this journey home to be eternally with Him. So very thankful God still speaks and is willing to speak daily to our heart instructing us in His way the way of holiness of righteousness of salvation.
