Free Methodist Church in SoCal

Free Methodist Church in SoCal Bringing wholeness to Southern California through healthy biblical communities | Est. 1890 Millions of blacks were bound as slaves. All slaves should be free.

The Free Methodist Church was founded right before the Civil War, in 1860. Free Methodists insisted slavery was sin. Here was an important reason for being Free Methodists: No discrimination against blacks or the poor or the new immigrants then flooding the country. Jesus welcomed everyone; so should the church, His body. The basic principle of freedom included rights for women and the Spirit’s fr

eedom in all parts of life. Complete freedom for women to be pastors as well as leaders in society is one of the deepest principles of Free Methodism. Every Christian, male or female, receives the Holy Spirit and gifts to serve God and others however God directs. We are to worship God in the freedom of the Spirit and to serve others in freedom as Jesus did.

This Mother’s Day, we give thanks for the women who have nurtured, guided, shaped, and strengthened us in countless ways.

We celebrate mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, teachers, mentors, friends, and all the women who have shown us the love of God through their care and presence.

At the same time, we recognize that Mother’s Day can carry grief, longing, or pain for many. As followers of Jesus, may we hold both joy and sorrow with compassion, remembering the call to “rejoice with those who rejoice” and “weep with those who weep” (Romans 12:15).

Today, may we honor the incredible women in our lives while making space for those who are hurting, reminding one another that we are not alone and that in Christ, there is resurrection hope.

This Easter, we’re reminded that resurrection is not just a message we share. It’s a hope we’re invited to receive ourselves. Before anyone arrived at the tomb, Jesus had already risen. The work was already done.
Wherever this Holy Week finds you—joyful, weary, hopeful, or carrying more than others can see—may you encounter the living Christ in a fresh way. You are seen, you are loved, and you are held by a hope stronger than whatever you’re facing.
