Light moments like these help alleviate some of the heaviness of the brokenness.

April 3rd: These kids are peeking out just before the feeding. They are wondering, “What are those Mzungus doing?” “Mzungu” means “white person, or ghost.” One of the kids was terrified of Benji, and it was cute and funny. Benji tried to hold his hand, but the child ran away crying. The staff told the child, “He’s a person, just like you and me!”

Our CEO, Byron, and two others are in Malawi. Here's what was accomplished today:

"At 5am we headed to the Mangochi district, winding through a downpour, then along the border of Mozambique. It was so beautiful seeing the hills and the lush greenery, and it was really cool to drive along a road that had Malawi on one side and Mozambique on the other.

The next part of our road trip was through a steep hill with a narrow road that snaked back and forth. The view was spectacular. It look almost two hours to get there because of all the potholes, people on bikes, and an occasional crowd of cows that would meander along the road.

We first visited a childcare center with about 44 children, called Songa 3. The kids were so cute and shy at first. They sang a welcome song and then each childcare worker introduced themself. Lots of gratitude for our partnership. Basically the meal we help provide is full of rice, shoya beans, and corn. They tell me it’s nutritious and that the kids are gaining weight. Benji and I helped served bowls and then sat with the kids. They were still shy until we pulled our phone cameras out, then we got swarmed with smiles and giggles.

I also got to speak to a high school class nearby. I challenged them to work hard at studying and spend as much time as possible in God's word. The speaking engagement was pretty informal, and I didn't know that I was even going to the class until we were there. One of the boys in the class gave us a warm “bro” handshake. The class laughed and thought it was cool that he called us “friend.”

There’s a strong language barrier, so the staff helped translate for me. They were all super grateful for MTC’s support. In fact, they were all wearing shorts that included each of our logos to represent the partnership.

Then we went to a second childcare center and got to participate in the kids club that happens once a week in the afternoon. There was a huge circle, I'd guess 50-60 kids moving around and around. Kids were quoting Scriptures and singing with tons of energy.

Tomorrow we’re going to have a rest day. It takes a long time to drive anywhere, so we’re wiped. "

This Spring, we're asking YOU to Bake Up Support!

We know some of you inhibit the art of baking. Whether it's a backyard pizza oven, sourdoughs perfected during the lockdown, cupcakes with your secret recipe frosting, scones or gluten free sugar free guilt free oat bars, we want you to use your love of baking and combine it with your love to reach at-risk children in Africa and connect them to well-trained churches..

Put together a neigborhood pizza party, or ask for donations for your baked goods to friends and neighbors with proceeds benefiting Mission to Children. People get to experience your epic recipe, and learn and support the mission to feed, evangelize, and disciple children in at-risk areas and connect them to well-trained churches.

En route to an MTC Gospel Outreach for the village children, our Malawian partner was disheartened to see a young Muslim girl working in the cornfield.

“Her mother did not approve of the Outreach. I saw Alana as I was cycling to the village. She was working in the cornfield with her mother. I stopped and asked why she, a 9-year-old girl, was working on the farm while her peers were at the Gospel Outreach. Alana said, ‘My mother says this is more important than the Outreach.’

I took her mother aside and talked with her privately about the importance of the Gospel Outreach. I explained the importance of letting the kid be a kid and letting her be with her friends. I then proceeded cycling to the school where the Outreach was taking place.

An hour later, I saw Alana coming. I welcomed her, and she joined the other children.

The next day I stopped by Alana’s home and asked her mother how the child was doing. She said Alana was doing well, and she apologized for attempting to steal her daughter’s joy. She repeatedly thanked me for encouraging her to let her daughter go to the Outreach, explaining,

‘Alana came home all bubbly and could not stop telling us stories of the singing, playing, praying, memory verses and the food. Last night Alana kept on singing the songs she learnt there.’”

Thanks to the Gospel Outreach, Alana is now connected with a local church! She’s joined the Bible Kids’ Club, where she hears the gospel regularly and can participate in ongoing discipleship. Our prayer is that Alana gives her life to Jesus, and that she will become a powerful testimony to her family and her community.

Your prayers and gifts can provide more children like Alana the opportunity to attend a Gospel Outreach and be connected with a local church.
