Tell City Knights of Columbus 1172

Tell City Knights of Columbus 1172 Recognizing a vital, practical need in his community, Father Michael J. McGivney, the 29-year-old assistant pastor of St.

Late-19th century Connecticut was marked by the growing prevalence of fraternal benefit societies, hostility toward Catholic immigrants and dangerous working conditions in factories that left many families fatherless. Mary’s Church in New Haven, Conn., gathered a group of men at his parish on Oct. 2, 1881. He proposed establishing a lay organization, the goal of which would be to prevent Catholic

men from entering secret societies whose membership was antithetical to Church teaching, to unite men of Catholic faith and to provide for the families of deceased members. As a symbol that allegiance to their country did not conflict with allegiance to their faith, the organization’s members took as their patron Christopher Columbus — recognized as a Catholic and celebrated as the discoverer of America. Thanks to Father McGivney’s persistence, the Knights of Columbus elected officers in February 1882 and officially assumed corporate status on March 29. In addition to the Order’s stated benefits, Catholic men were drawn to the Knights because of its emphasis on serving one’s Church, community and family with virtue. Writing in The Columbiad in 1898, a year before he was elected supreme knight, Edward L. Hearn wrote that a Knight should live according to the virtues of loyalty, charity, courtesy and modesty, as well as “self-denial and careful respect for the feelings of others.” Fraternity and patriotism were added to the Knights’ founding principles of charity and unity in 1885 and 1900, respectively.

1882: The Knights of Columbus is born on Feb. 6, 1882, when the first members choose Columbus as their patron. Immediately after the Order’s March 29 incorporation, Father McGivney sends the first diocesan-wide appeal for new members to his fellow priests.

On Memorial Day, we pause to remember those who gave their lives in service to our country, and to honor the sacrifice that makes our freedom possible.

We also remember the many members of the Knights of Columbus who have served with courage and faith, answering the call to defend both God and country. Their legacy lives on in those who continue to serve, protect, and lead with integrity.

We pray for the souls of the fallen, for the comfort of their families, and for peace in our world. May their courage and selfless love never be forgotten.

"In these times of uncertainty, the call for faithful stewardship has never been more urgent. We are seeking Catholic men of conviction to step forward—not just to lead, but to act as guardians of our families and our communities.

True change begins when we move beyond the distractions of the world and anchor ourselves in our relationship with God. Our Council needs men who understand that leadership is a form of service, rooted in the discipline and integrity.

Now is the time to stand together, united in our mission to protect what is sacred and to lead our community toward a future of structural excellence and spiritual growth. Join us as we build a foundation that cannot be shaken."

If you are a Catholic man in the community and are interested in attending. Please sign up online (www.kofc.org) and we will vote you in before the meeting.

“I am the way and the truth and the life.” — John 14:6

In today’s Gospel, Jesus speaks words of comfort to His disciples: “Do not let your hearts be troubled.” He promises that He is preparing a place for us and reveals that the path to the Father is not a roadmap, but a relationship with Him.

To know Jesus is to know the Father. To follow Him is to walk in truth and life. Even in uncertainty, we are not without direction. We are invited to trust in Him.

🙏 Lord, strengthen our faith, calm our fears, and help us follow You as the way that leads to life.

Today the Church celebrates Divine Mercy Sunday, a feast that reminds us of the endless mercy flowing from the heart of Christ. The devotion began with the visions of Saint Faustina Kowalska, a Polish nun in the 1930s who recorded Jesus’ message of mercy and trust in her diary.

In the year 2000, Pope John Paul II officially established Divine Mercy Sunday for the whole Church, placing it on the Sunday after Easter, a fitting moment to celebrate the mercy made visible through Christ’s Passion, death, and Resurrection.

This feast reminds us that no sin is greater than God’s mercy, and that Jesus invites each of us to trust in His love and extend that mercy to others.

🙏 Jesus, I trust in You.

“Why do you seek the living one among the dead? He is not here, but he has been raised.” — Luke 24:5–6

He is not here. He has risen! He has risen indeed!

Today we celebrate the victory of life over death, hope over despair, and love over sin.

Christ is risen, and because He lives, we have hope.

We wish you and your family an Easter season filled with blessings and joy.

Happy Easter! Alleluia! ✝️

Nie ma Go tutaj; zmartwychwstał” (Łk 24, 5-6).

Nie ma go tutaj. Zmartwychwstał. Prawdziwie zmartwychwstał Pan!

Dzisiaj świętujemy zwycięstwo życia nad śmiercią, nadziei nad rozpaczą, miłości nad grzechem.

Chrystus zmartwychwstał i to, że żyje, daje nam nadzieję.

Życzymy Wam i Waszym rodzinom radosnej, błogosławionej Wielkanocy.
Chrystus zmartwychwstał! Alleluja!
