Hey all!
Here is the longer version of the video I meant for us to watch and discuss at church today. It's by Skye Jethani, about just under 12 minutes.
With the worldwide buzz about the rapture supposed to happen this last Tuesday, I wanted to help us answer some questions about what this was all about.
Skye does a great job noting that often we've been taught things that are not in the bible. Adam and Eve ate an apple? Jonah was swallowed by a whale? How many wise men visited Jesus? (And where and when did they visit him?)
"The Rapture" is another one of those items that is not actually in the scriptures. The word itself never appears in the bible. Not once.
So where did it come from and why do some Christians really believe strongly in the rapture? Most importantly, what does the bible actually say or not say about it?

Remember, believing that Jesus is returning, in person, to bring the fullness of the Kingdom of God - the scripture DO say that.
It's the how & when that Christians debate, and the rapture is a subset of that disagreement.
In the end, we have to return to the scriptures. What do they say? what do they don't say? What did it mean to the original readers when the writers, inspired by the Holy Spirit, wrote those scriptures?
