Hey all!

Here is the longer version of the video I meant for us to watch and discuss at church today. It's by Skye Jethani, about just under 12 minutes.

With the worldwide buzz about the rapture supposed to happen this last Tuesday, I wanted to help us answer some questions about what this was all about.

Skye does a great job noting that often we've been taught things that are not in the bible. Adam and Eve ate an apple? Jonah was swallowed by a whale? How many wise men visited Jesus? (And where and when did they visit him?)

"The Rapture" is another one of those items that is not actually in the scriptures. The word itself never appears in the bible. Not once.

So where did it come from and why do some Christians really believe strongly in the rapture? Most importantly, what does the bible actually say or not say about it?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjJwFZipGpE

Remember, believing that Jesus is returning, in person, to bring the fullness of the Kingdom of God - the scripture DO say that.

It's the how & when that Christians debate, and the rapture is a subset of that disagreement.

In the end, we have to return to the scriptures. What do they say? what do they don't say? What did it mean to the original readers when the writers, inspired by the Holy Spirit, wrote those scriptures?

Everyone knows the rapture is in the Bible. Or, is it? Despite it being popularized and commercialized by Christian books, movies and even Hollywood, Skye Je...

Yesterday we began discussing our practicing prayer / praise series.

What is praise? Just a type of prayer?

Is it it different than thanksgiving? How does praising differ from complimenting or affirming or appreciating? If it even does?

We are going to wrestle with what praise is, what it isn't, and practice what we are learning in the coming weeks.

To help us get started, where's Mark Alan William's thoughts on the difference between thanksgiving and praise.

https://www.markalanwilliams.net/post/2018/11/19/the-subtle-but-significant-difference-between-thanksgiving-and-praise/

Did he get it right? Wrong? Is it really that subtle? Wrestle with it and weigh in with your thoughts.

Remember, next Sunday weather permitting, we are worshiping on the water at Riverbend, and we will have another baptism!
