First United Methodist Church, Tecumseh https://www.firstumctecumseh.org Our church was founded in 1856 as a society within the Methodist Episcopal Church.

The minutes of the Conference held on April 16, 1857, in Nebraska City states that, “At the end of the first year Hiram A. Copeland reported for the charge (parish) forty-seven members…” indicating that the society had been founded during the previous year. This is the first reference to any society of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Tecumseh. Services were held for some years in homes of member

s and in schoolhouses. In 1870, the first church building was erected. Construction on the present building was begun in the spring of 1908. In 1939, the Methodist Episcopal Church, the Methodist Episcopal Church South, and the Protestant Methodist Church united creating the Methodist Church. In 1968, the with union of the Evangelical United Brethren and the Methodist Church, we became part of the community now called the United Methodist Church. We are connected with the many United Methodists throughout the world.
