This makes me think of the story Jesus told about the Pharisee and the tax collector in Luke 18.

Two men went to the temple to pray.

The Pharisee stood there listing everything he was doing right and thanking God that he wasn’t like the people around him….

The tax collector couldn’t even bring himself to look toward heaven.🥹

His prayer was simple:

“God, have mercy on me, a sinner.”

👉 And Jesus said it was the tax collector who went home justified before God.

That should humble every single one of us!

It’s incredibly easy to recognize someone else’s sin while becoming strangely forgetful of how desperately we need grace ourselves.

We can know Scripture.

We can attend church.

We can serve.

We can speak truth.

We can have strong convictions.

And still allow pride to convince us that we’re somehow standing on higher ground.

But there is NO higher ground at the foot of the cross.✝️

Truth matters. Obedience matters. Holiness matters.

But humility, love, gentleness, mercy, and self-control matter too!

May we never become so focused on what God needs to change in everyone else that we stop asking Him to search our own hearts.🙏🤎
