New Year Bible Reading Resolutions. You are likely setting out on a journey to read the entire Bible this year, or read the New Testament, or some other kind of schedule. Great! Something to keep in mind as you read: have appropriate expectations. While the Bible is transformative and powerful, that does not mean that every single time you sit down to read you’re going to experience something incredible. We are after the cumulative effect here, not the single point-in-time reading that blows you away. You will have times that like for sure, but not always.
I like to think of it as meals which we eat. In my 37 years on earth, I have eaten thousands and thousands of meals. Most of them I do not remember specifically. There were some meals all along that I remember vividly because of the person I was with, the environment, or the quality of the food was so amazing that I had never had a similar experience. But 99.9% of the meals I have eaten in my life were just… well, good meals (for which I am grateful!). But even if I cannot remember specific details of each of the meals, I know this: each meal nourished me and gave me what I needed to grow and sustain life. So it is with Bible reading. Stay the course, friends. In the long run, you will look back and be amazed at how far God’s Spirit has brought you.
