Today marks the first day of Elul - the last month of the Jewish year and a very significant time on God’s calendar leading up to the High Holy Days of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Elul is the month of repentance, preparation, and intimacy with God!

Known as the month when “the King is in the field,” Elul is a time of repentance, preparation, and visitation! When the King is in the field, He is most approachable. Rather than going through traditional royal protocol and having to approach the King at His throne, He is humbly meeting you where you are for the next month! Take advantage of this time and accept His invitation, seeking Him while He may be found!

“Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:” (Isaiah 55:6).

The Lord is near and His heart is open to your prayers of repentance! As He is in the field, God is giving us the opportunity to cultivate and prepare our hearts for the new season and harvest of the coming year.

Men of Valor,

I want to tell you in love as your spiritual father and mentor that if you want to fulfill your God-given destiny you need to stop making excuses! Every man is tempted to give himself a pass at times. We all face pressure, setbacks, and moments we don’t feel like showing up, but excuses are like weeds and if you let one grow, more will follow, and before you know it, your garden is overrun.

“The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat,” (Proverbs 13:4).

The truth is, greatness doesn’t come from perfect conditions. It comes from showing up even when you don’t feel like it. From leading even when it’s uncomfortable. From choosing discipline over comfort. Excuses don’t please God. Faithfulness does!

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me,” (Philippians 4:13).

Stop telling yourself, “I’ll start tomorrow,” or, “I’m too tired,” and start asking yourself, “If I don’t step up now, who will?”

Today is the day to refuse excuses. Here are some practical ways you can get started:

Get up earlier than you feel like. Pray and invite God into your day before touching your phone.
Do one hard thing you’ve been putting off. Make the phone call, start the workout, have the tough conversation.
Finish everything that you start. This means not quitting halfway.
Speak life over yourself and your family and declare God’s promises out loud today! You are more than a conqueror through Christ Jesus!

Psalm 40:3 says, “And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.”

Look around and be thankful. You were given another day with another chance to do the will of God in His presence!

“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name,” (Psalm 100:4).

Remember, the presence of God is so important in your life. Take a moment, think of His goodness, and sing a song of gratitude. You have so much to be thankful for!
