Calvary Episcopal Church

Calvary Episcopal Church We are a beautiful, historic-but living!-church in a lovely small southern town, and are surrounded by a mid 19th century arboretum. Come and see!

At Calvary Episcopal Church, we are pleased to welcome all newcomers to our community. We hope you will give us a chance to get to know you and that you will want to get to know us better. Our congregation is a unique tapestry of friendly and faithful Episcopalians who come from a variety of backgrounds and lifestyles. We welcome diversity, and we gain strength, knowledge, faith and joy from one a

nother. Our times of service are on Sundays: a spoken service at 8:00 a.m. (Holy Eucharist, Rite I) and a service with music at 11:00 a.m. (Holy Eucharist, Rite II).

We had a great 4 weeks!

“The camp was a Summer Literacy Initiative (SLI) site, supported by the NC Rural Center, The Duke Endowment, Barnhill Family Foundation, and the Impact Center at UNC’s Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute.”

Calvary Episcopal Church hosted 14 students for a Summer Literacy Initiative reading camp this summer in Tarboro, North Carolina.

We had a wonderful 3rd week of Calvary Episcopal Reading Adventures Camp! 📚

Our theme was community helpers. We had two visits from the sheriff’s department. We learned how to make our own pizza’s 🍕

We also read books about the many ways people help in our community.

At our Family Engagement night our teachers modeled strategies for reading aloud and engaging with their children in the story by asking questions!

Our Calvary Episcopal Reading Adventures kids are continuing to learn and have a good time! 📚

This week is Entrepreneurship Week. The kids learned about making products and had fun “selling” those products to the people who came to the market day. They also had Ms. Liz from the Edgecombe County Memorial Library come and read some books in Clark Hall.

We have had a GREAT week at Calvary Summer Reading adventures. This week we are focused on nature! ☀️🍀🦋
We learned about butterflies and the process of the life cycle by watching the butterflies transform. Then we got to release our butterflies in the churchyard after learning about the trees in the churchyard with Ms. Renee!

A 4th of July collect 🇺🇸
Lord God Almighty, in whose Name the founders of this country won liberty for themselves and for us, and lit the torch of freedom for nations then unborn:
Grant that we and all the people of this land may have grace to maintain our liberties in righteousness and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

We’ve had the best week at Glory Ridge, serving the residents of Madison County. The Calvary crew helped build exterior porches, accessibility ramps, and hand rails. We also completed landscaping, home cleaning and exterior painting projects. All week long, Barbara Lee worked her magic in the kitchen, making sure everyone was well fed! A huge thanks to all who made this trip possible.
