Led by Faithfulness

In your faithfulness you have led the people whom you have redeemed; in your strength you have guided them to your holy habitation. - Exodus 15:13 NASB

If you are a parent, you know the pain of watching your child experience disappointment. You wish you could protect them from the things that will hurt their hearts such as broken friendships, teasing, being left out, or missing out on exciting experiences. While it hurts to watch your child go through the slew of emotions that follow one of these issues, you also know that the things they encounter as children will help them for the rest of their lives, and therefore you support them through their pain but do not always rescue them from it.

God does the same with you as his child. Faithfully he leads you through the disappointments and hurts in life. He sees your pain, supports you and provides comfort, but he does not always pull you out of the trenches. He knows that what you will face now will strengthen your character to be conformed to that of Christ's, and really, what could be better?

Lord, as I face disappointments or lead my family through them, help me remember that each one is not a surprise to you, but another tool that will help shape us into the image of Christ.

The Lesson for June 7 - DEBORAH, A LEADER IN A NATIONAL EMERGENCY
June 2 - A Leader Who Cares (Acts 9:36-42)

In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which, when translated, is Dorcas), who was always doing good and helping the poor. About that time she became sick and died, and her body was washed and placed in an upstairs room. Lydda was near Joppa; so when the disciples heard that Peter was in Lydda, they sent two men to him and urged him, "Please come at once!"

Peter went with them, and when he arrived he was taken upstairs to the room. All the widows stood around him, crying and showing him the robes and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was still with them.

Peter sent them all out of the room; then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, "Tabitha, get up." She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up. He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called the believers and the widows and presented her to them alive. This because known all over Joppa, and many people believed in the Lord.

**Our verse to remember**
At that time Deborah, a prophetess, wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel. She used to sit under the palm of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim; and the Israelites came up to her for judgment. (Judg. 4:4-5)

Father, I’m sitting here in the quiet, watching the days move by on the calendar, and if I’m honest, my heart is restless. I want to rush ahead, to see the end of this season, to finally hold the promise I’ve been praying for. But Lord, I know my timing isn’t Yours. I feel the weight of the pause, the heavy silence of the "not yet." Help me to find peace in this stillness. Strip away my need for control and my fear of being forgotten. I surrender my schedule to Your sovereignty. Let me trust that even when nothing seems to be moving, You are working deeply within me. Teach me how to wait well, not with anxiety, but with a heart anchored in Your goodness.

Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.

Disassembled

Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. - Psalm 34:19 ESV

Sometimes for us to love God he needs to take our world apart. We build up our lives with good things, good dreams, and good plans. And then God disassembles it. Why? Because his love cannot have us pursuing things other than him, and his glory demands a heart which is consecrated to him alone. His mercy understands that we go after selfish ambitions, and his grace wants to give us something so much better.

These afflictions can look like unjust suffering to us, but when we are given the grace of God to see them as he does, we can praise him for letting us stand in the remains of a life that would not have served as well. If God is taking our world apart, stripping us of our comforts and pulling away the false sources of hope and security, we can still recognize his mercy and give thanks.

God, give me your perspective so I can understand what you are doing in my life. And even when I don't understand it, help me trust you. If you are removing things from my life, I can only assume that they are not the best for your plan or for me.

June 1 - A Leader Who Sets an Example (1 Tim. 3:1-7)

Here is a trustworthy saying: If anyone sets his heart on being an overseer, he desires a noble task. Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own family well and see that that his children obey him with proper respect. (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God's church?) He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgement as the devil. He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil's trap.
