On this Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe, let us reflect on how Our Mother keeps us under Her Mantle and leads us to Her Son, Jesus.
"Do not fear... Am I not here, I who am your Mother? Are you not under my shadow and protection? Am I not your Fountain of Life? Are you.not under the folds of my mantle" - Our Lady of Guadalupe to San Juan Diego.
On December of 1531 Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared to San Juan Diego to ask that a Shrine be built upon the hill they were on. When the Bishop asked for proof of the identity of the woman, Our Lady provided San Juan Diego with Castilian Roses to place within his Tilma which were not in bloom nor found in Mexico. When San Juan Diego revealed his Tilma to the bishop the roses flowed out and the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe was imprinted onto the fibers of the Tilma. After this around 9 million Aztecs converted to Catholicism, a feat that the missionaries of the time were not able to achieve.

The Wonders of the Tilma
The cactus fibers of the tilma are still in tact even though this material deteriorates within 50 years.
The stars on the tilma align exactly with the stars in the sky the night of December 12th, 1531.
You can see San Juan Diego's reflection within Our Lady's eyes.
Our Lady of Guadalupe indicates she is pregnant by wearing the Aztec maternity belt.
Upon many, many more!

This Sunday celebrates the First Sunday of Advent. This is a time to walk with Mary and Joseph from Nazareth to Bethlehem, think of the Jewish People waiting for the Messiah, remind ourselves that we need a Savior, and prepare ourselves for the Second Coming of Christ.

To honor the upcoming Feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel (July 16th), Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish will be distributing Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Scapulars (Brown Scapular) before each Mass this weekend, July 13th and 14th.

In the year 1215 on July 16th, The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to St. Simon Stock who was a Carmelite. Our Lady gave to him a brown woolen scapular promising that whoever dies wearing the Scapular would not suffer eternal fire. The Church spread the Scapular to all Catholics allowing us to share in the devotion.

Through the Scapular we show True Devotion to Our Lady who leads us to her son through Veneration, Confidence, and Love. In this devotion, Our Lady required that we fulfill certain conditions:
1. Wear the Brown Scapular continuously.
2. Observe chastity according to one’s state in life (married/single).
3. Recite daily the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin OR Observe the fasts of the Church together with abstaining from meat on Wednesdays and Saturdays OR With permission of a priest, say five decades of Our Lady’s Most Holy Rosary OR With permission of a priest, substitute some other good work.

Use this prayer when asking Our Lady of Mt. Carmel for her intercession.
O most beautiful flower of Mount Carmel,
fruitful vine, splendor of heaven, Blessed Mother of the Son of God, Immaculate Virgin, assist me herein and show me here you are my Mother.

O Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth,
I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to succor me in my necessity.

There are none that can withstand thy power.

O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee. (recite three times)

Holy Mary, I place this cause in your hands. (recite three times)
