Walking into a church you have never been to before is one of the stranger feelings in the world.
You do not know where to park. You do not know if you are dressed right. You do not know if someone is going to corner you the second you walk in, or if you are going to sit there invisible and wonder why you even came.
Most people who have been away from church for a while know that feeling. It is the reason a lot of folks drive by, talk themselves out of it, and go home.
So here is what a first Sunday at Lakeview actually looks like, as plainly as I can put it.
You pull into the parking lot at 9130 Lucas Ferry Road in Tanner. Nobody is directing traffic or handing you a clipboard. You walk in. Someone will probably smile at you and say good morning. That is about as intense as it gets at the door.
You find a seat. Any seat. There is no wrong row, no reserved section, no spot you are going to accidentally take from someone who has sat there for twenty years. Sit where you feel comfortable.
What you are wearing does not matter. People show up in their Sunday best and people show up in jeans. Nobody is keeping score.
When the service starts, you are not going to be called out. Nobody is going to ask first-timers to raise their hand or stand up or introduce themselves to the room. You can just be there. That is allowed.
People here are genuinely glad when someone new walks through the door. Not in a way that feels like a sales pitch. In a way that feels like, hey, glad you made it.
After the service, if you want to talk to someone, people will be around. If you want to walk out quietly and think about it, that is fine too. No pressure either direction.
The hardest part of a first visit is usually the parking lot, before you ever get out of the car.
What is it that has kept you from walking through the door?
