Danger of a Single Story

This Sunday, we’ll reflect on an excerpt of a TED Talk and its powerful invitation to see one another more fully. Drawing on Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s message about the “danger of a single story,” we’ll explore how assumptions and incomplete narratives shape our understanding of others—and how curiosity, compassion, and listening can open us to deeper truth and connection. Join us for a service centered on empathy, justice, and the many stories that make us human.

Flower Celebration

The Flower communion service was created by Norbert Capek (1870- 1942), who founded the Unitarian Church in Czechoslovakia. He introduced this special service to that church on June 4, 1923. For some time he had felt the need for some symbolic ritual that would bind people more closely together.. So he turned to the native beauty of their countryside for elements of a communion which would be genuine to them. It was such a success that it was held yearly just before the summer recess of the church.

So, on June 7th please bring a cut flower, a potted plant or flower, some seeds, a succulent, a seedling tree, whatever you would like to share. You will leave your piece of beauty for someone else to choose and you will go home with something different that someone else has brought.

Don’t Let Them Steal Your Joy

It's a theme that calls us to hold tightly to our joy—even when the world around us seems determined to take it away. We know all too well that the challenges we face in our world, can make it feel like joy can’t or shouldn’t exist. Sunday's message is simple, yet radical: joy is not something that can be taken from us—not if we claim it as our own, not if we choose to live from it.
