This Pentecost Sunday, the Catholic Church grants a Plenary Indulgence to the faithful who publicly recite or sing the hymn “Veni Creator Spiritus.”

A plenary indulgence is the complete remission of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven. It is a gift of God’s mercy entrusted to the Church through the merits of Christ and the saints.

“Veni Creator Spiritus” has been prayed by Christians for centuries as a solemn invocation of the Holy Spirit.

Come, Holy Spirit, Creator blest,
And in our souls take up Thy rest;
Come with Thy grace and heavenly aid,
And fill the hearts which Thou hast made.

To receive the plenary indulgence on Pentecost:

• Publicly recite or sing the “Veni Creator Spiritus”
• Receive Holy Communion
• Go to sacramental Confession (within about 20 days before or after)
• Pray for the intentions of the Holy Father
• Be free from all attachment to sin, even venial sin

This beautiful tradition reminds us that Pentecost is not merely a historical event, but a living reality in the life of the Church.

May the Holy Spirit renew our hearts and strengthen us in holiness.
