Vigils of Prayer, Learning and Discernment and Parish Synod Sessions

Vigils of Prayer, Learning and Discernment.
On February 3rd and 4th Vigils of Prayer, Learning and Discernment were hold at OLPH celebrated by our pastor Fr. Hector, following the invitation of the Holy Father Pope Francis and our Bishop Gregory Parks to come together to discern our Church’s future. Our goal was to grow as Disciples of Jesus Christ, to deepen our communion as members of the Catholic Church, and participating actively in its mission.

Parish Synod Sessions
Also as part of activities related to the Synod, our parish hold two sessions, one in English, on Sunday January 30th, and one in Spanish, on Saturday, February 5th. Important issues were discussed and deeply discerned, such as: How the Holy Spirit is drawing us all closer together in communion, participation, and mission. What the Church is doing well. And where the Holy Spirit is leading the Church. Both sessions elapsed in an atmosphere of Synodality which refers to a mutual listening, dialogue, and collective discernment, this style should characterize the life of the entire Church. Let us pray for our Bishop Parkes that the Holy Spirit be his strength and inspiration in this important diocesan process. Let’s also pray for the good development of the Synod in the entire Church.

Vigilias de Oración, Aprendizaje, Discernimiento y Sesiones Parroquiales del Sínodo

Vigilias de Oración, Aprendizaje y Discernimiento.
Los días 3 y 4 de febrero se celebraron en OLPH las Vigilias de Oración, Aprendizaje y Discernimiento presididas por nuestro pastor el P. Héctor, siguiendo la invitación del Santo Padre el Papa Francisco y nuestro Obispo Gregory Parkes a reunirnos para discernir el futuro de nuestra Iglesia. Nuestro objetivo es crecer como Discípulos de Jesucristo, profundizar nuestra comunión como miembros de la Iglesia Católica y participar activamente en su misión.

Sesiones Parroquiales del Sínodo
También como parte de las actividades relacionadas con el Sínodo, nuestra parroquia tuvo dos sesiones, una en inglés el domingo, 30 de enero y otra en español, el sábado 5 de febrero. Asuntos importantes fueron discutidos y profundamente discernidos, tales como: ¿Cómo el Espíritu Santo nos está acercando a todos en comunión, participación y misión. ¿Qué está haciendo bien la Iglesia? Y ¿hacia dónde el Espíritu Santo la está guiando? Ambas sesiones transcurrieron en un ambiente de sinodalidad que se refiere a la escucha mutua, al diálogo y al discernimiento colectivo, estilo que debería caracterizar la vida de toda la Iglesia. Oremos por nuestro obispo Parkes para que el Espíritu Santo sea su fuerza e inspiración en esta importante misión del proceso diocesano y por el buen desarrollo del Sínodo en toda la Iglesia.

Dear Parishioners,

February 5 & 6 is called “Commitment Weekend”. You have been hearing the last few weeks about the new Diocesan Catholic Ministry Appeal. We have shared information here at the parish, and you should have received a packet in the mail at home which includes a message from Bishop Parkes, as well as a brochure that provides information about ministries, programs and outreach efforts the new appeal will support.

We are all invited to make a courageous gift, that demonstrates how as disciples, we are living the gospel and sharing it with those we encounter. Now more than ever, it is vital for us to do all-our best- we can as faithful builders of God’s Kingdom. I am asking you to make a commitment to the appeal this weekend.

As you think about what you will give, remember, this gift is in addition to your weekly offertory giving.
Our parish is very grateful for all the blessings you have shared with us and your financial support.

El 5 y 6 de febrero ha sido llamado "Fin de semana de compromiso". Ustedes han estado escuchando las últimas semanas acerca de nuestra nueva Apelación Diocesana de los Ministerios Católicos. Hemos compartido información aquí en la parroquia, y usted debería haber recibido un paquete por correo en casa que incluye un mensaje del obispo Parkes, así como un folleto que proporciona información sobre qué ministerios, programas y esfuerzos de alcance para el nuevo llamamiento apoyarán.

Se nos está invitando a hacer una contribución especial, que demuestre cómo estamos viviendo como discípulos de Cristo y compartiendo el Evangelio con aquellos que nos encontramos por el camino. Ahora más que nunca, es vital para nosotros hacer todo nuestro mejor esfuerzo como creyentes constructores del Reino de Dios. Les pido que hagan un compromiso monetario para esta campaña.

Lay Speakers Testimonials Weekend, January 22-23, 2022
Fin de Semana de Testimonios de Laicos, 22 y 23 de enero del 2022

As part of the new Catholic Ministry Appeal, we will spend the next few weeks together showing how God is calling us to share our gifts with our local church. Three of our parishioners, Scott Henderson, Vic Omila and Baudilio Hernandez, last weekend, shared their testimonies with those exploring the critical role finances play in their personal lives and in the life of our Church.

They are a living examples of the transformative power of Catholic Ministries; they are much beloved and respected leaders in our parish community. Their involvement started as regular parishioners but they heard the call and to serve. They grew and became what they are today.

They addressed the congregation with an invitation to become stewards of Catholic Ministries so people can benefit from its service We grow as we give ourselves to others, and the farther the reach of Catholic Ministries goes, the more people can benefit from its services. One concrete way to help is by contributing monetarily every first weekend of the month to the second collection for the Catholic Ministries Campaign. Thank you for being a contributor to this cause and part of the Faith community of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Stay tune for still other ways of participating in this campaign.

Como parte de la nueva Apelación del Ministerio Católico, pasaremos juntos las próximas semanas discerniendo cómo Dios nos está llamando a compartir nuestros dones con nuestra iglesia local. Tres de nuestros feligreses, Scott Henderson, Vic Omila y Baudilio Hernandez, el pasado fin de semana, compartieron su testimonio con aquellos que exploran el papel fundamental que juegan las finanzas en su vida personal y en la vida de nuestra Iglesia.

Ellos son un ejemplo vivo del poder transformador de los Ministerios Católicos, líderes amados y respetados en nuestra comunidad parroquial. Ellos comenzaron en la iglesia como parroquianos regulares y luego fueron llamados por la Iglesia a servir y fueron creciendo gradualmente hasta convertirse en lo que son actualmente.

Ellos nos invitaron este fin de semana a convertirnos en colaboradores de los Ministerios Católicos para que otras personas en el futuro puedan beneficiarse del servicio que estos ofrecen. Crecemos en la medida que nos damos a los demás y mientras más lejos llegue el alcance de los Ministerios Católicos más personas podrán beneficiarse. Una forma concreta de ayudar es contribuyendo monetariamente cada primer fin de semana del mes en la segunda colecta para la Campaña de los Ministerios Católicos. Gracias por ser un colaborador de esta causa y parte de esta comunidad de Fe de Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro. Estén atentos porque pronto les señalaremos formas de participar en esta campaña.

Knowing our Catechists.
Conociendo a nuestros Catequistas.

My name is Nathalie Laguela and I was born in Havana, Cuba. I arrived in the United States in 2000.

Since I was little, I wanted to become a teacher following the footsteps of my maternal grandmother. My relationship with Jesus started when I was just 9 years old, my family always had the cultural belief about Jesus and Mary, nevertheless I had never been brought to Church after the day of my baptism, until my friend’s grandmother invited me to attend Mass. Since that day forward I began my journey to grow in the faith. After some time, I convinced my grandmother to take me back to that special place because I wanted to experience it again.

Soon after my mother joined us every Sunday, followed by my grandfather and father. The years past and I came to this wonderful country which has allowed me to have opportunities and reach my dreams. During my twenties, I had the privilege to visit Spain with the assistance of the members of OLPH to join the World Youth Day! I was part of the “Inter-parochial Pastoral Group” which provided retreats and many activities for teens and younger adults. This year I have been assigned to prepare the Confirmation Group, it is my hope all of them get to experience and follow Jesus during this time and for the rest of their journey of faith.

Mi nombre es Nathalie Laguela y nací en La Habana, Cuba. Llegué a los Estados Unidos en el año 2000.

Desde pequeña quise ser maestra siguiendo los pasos de mi abuela materna. Mi relación con Jesús comenzó cuando tenía solo 9 años, mi familia siempre tuvo la creencia cultural acerca de Jesús y María, sin embargo, nunca había sido llevada a la Iglesia después del día de mi bautismo, hasta que la abuela de mi amiga me invitó a asistir a misa. Desde ese día en adelante comencé mi viaje a crecer en la fe.

Después de un tiempo, convencí a mi abuela para que me llevara de vuelta a ese lugar especial porque quería volver a experimentarlo. Poco después mi madre se unió a nosotros todos los domingos, seguido de mi abuelo y padre. Los años pasaron y vine a este maravilloso país que me ha permitido tener oportunidades y alcanzar mis sueños. Durante mis veinte años, tuve el privilegio de visitar España, con la ayuda de los miembros de OLPH, para unirse a la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud: Formé parte del Grupo Interparroquial Pastoral que organizó retiros y muchas actividades para adolescentes y jóvenes adultos. Este año he estado asignada para preparar el Grupo de Confirmación, es mi esperanza que todos ellos puedan experimentar y seguir a Jesús, durante este tiempo y durante el resto de su jornada de fe.
