On 60 Minutes (CBS) there was a very well-done feature on homeless famillies in Florida. Although it focused on a school in Seminole, I kept thinking that Seton Elementary might be featured (it wasn't, but Seminole is close by too).
If you had any doubts about the impact of our food contributions to homeless kids to tide them over through the year end holidays, make sure you watch the whole segment. It will also raise your consciousness about what they experience ...

Unemployment in central Florida is so acute that some families are now living in their cars. So how did Scott Pelley's team track down people without addresses? Read more by Overtime Staff on CBS News' 60 Minutes Overtime.

Praying for all of those who continue to give so much of themselves and their families to protect our freedoms here in the USA.

Remember all those kids who shared about the saints last week? In today's Gospel Jesus tells us story that reminds us WE have to always be ready to do the right thing just like they did. We never know when we'll be asked to do important work for God, but when those times come - and we see chances to be helpful, or kind or honest - we need to be ready to take them.

The Sacred Heart Religious Education kids will be helping to support an elementary school community this year (within our on Diocese of St. Pete) that has a high % of kids where the only meals they get are the free breakfasts and lunches that are provided via the school system. While they are on break over Christmas they do not even have those meals ( 16 days). Many of these kids are essentially homeless. Think of items you can keep in your backpack and carry.

We are seeking nutritious food items that do not require cooking, refrigeration, can openers, or even open container storage.
Examples: individual cereal boxes and the milk boxes that do not require storage.
Proteins: Tuna fish or can meats in foil pouches or pop-top cans, individual pkgs of nuts, seeds, trail-mix, individual serving cups of peanut butter. even jerky is not that bad. Be creative.
Fruits: Fruit cups, and dried fruit, juice boxes, etc.. NO Sugar fruit flavored chews please, we want healthy nutritious food.
Veggies: V-8 drinks, V-8 Splash, veggie straws, veggie chips, etc.

Donations can be brought to the Sunday morning Faith Formation at the Sacred Heart Academy on SUNDAYS between 9:45-11:30 am. You may also drop them off at the Religious Education office down the hall from the St. Francis Social Hall. My door says Susie Stanley on it right now. I will place a sign regarding donations this week.
Thank you

GOOD SAMARITAN

A Sunday school teacher was telling her class the story of the
Good Samaritan. She asked the class, 'If you saw a person lying on
the roadside, all wounded and bleeding, what would you do?'

A thoughtful little girl broke the hushed silence, 'I think I'd throw up.'

The Miracle of the Sun is a miraculous event witnessed by as many as 100,000 people on 13 October 1917 in the Cova da Iria fields near Fátima, Portugal.

This event was attributed by believers to Our Lady of Fátima, an apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary to three young shepherd children in 1917. The children reported that the Lady had promised them that she would on 13 October reveal her identity to them and provide a miracle “so that all may believe.

MANY THANX TO OUR AWESOME CATECHIST FOR THE 2011-2012 YEAR !! The mission of the catechist (the CCD teacher) is to reveal the person of Jesus, his life and mission, in today's world. The root of the word catechist means "to echo" or "to resound". Our wonderful Catechists share info (the doctrine and traditions of our Catholic Church) using stories, symbols, and songs to help young people experience God's presence.

Today we celebrate the Most Holy Name of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Mary always points us to God, reminding us of God's infinite goodness. She helps us to open our hearts to God's ways, wherever those may lead us. Honored under the title “Queen of Peace,” Mary encourages us to cooperate with Jesus in building a peace based on justice, a peace that respects the fundamental human rights (including religious rights) of all peoples.
