Wondering if our Ministry Training and Discipleship Programs are a good fit? Read Rebekah's Journey:
-When I first joined the Ruth House program, we didn’t have an official house yet. Its genesis happened in one of Compass's staff members' home. Many of the deepest teachings and lessons learned took place around a kitchen table. I left my home of 12.5 years in 2019, making the leap from Haiti to Tampa. Even though I was 23 years old and had traveled around the world, I had never had a regular job, I didn’t know how to drive, I had no idea how to do my taxes, and I knew nothing about any kind of insurance. I knew how to be a missionary and the child of missionaries, but I did not know how to be an adult in the States. Slowly, the staff taught me how to function as a mature adult and stand on my own 2 feet while still feeling like I was living with family.
-In 2020, the program increased its capacity to serve multiple girls, and I was asked if I could eventually run the house as its onsite manager. It was wonderful knowing that other girls and I would have a home of our very own to take care of, decorate, and live in. I was also excited but nervous about the new responsibilities that I would be taking on in the home. The transition from being the one receiving and following to the one giving and leading was gradual. Within our little community, I took on more and more responsibilities and gained confidence as a leader.
-Living in the Ruth House changed my life and helped my true self emerge, which I previously had been too scared to live out of. I knew safety, love, correction, and stability while I lived in the house. Even though I do not live in the house anymore, as I got married and now live with my husband, I still feel like I am reaping the benefits of what I learned there in my work, marriage, and life today.
Rebekah went through the Ministry Training and Discipleship Programs during her time at the Ruth House. She is now a leader in the Bible Study homegroup and a key member of the women's fellowship group.
