My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Jesus Christ is Risen! Alleluia!

Today, we rejoice in the great feast of Easter. In the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, sin and death are conquered, and the grace of new life is poured out upon the world. Because He lives, we are given the gift of eternal life, the gift of forgiveness, and the gift of a hope that does not disappoint.

Jesus Christ perfectly fulfilled the will of the Father out of love, love for you and me. What took place on the Cross and in the empty tomb two thousand years ago is not merely a lesson in history, it is the origin of our salvation.

Each of us knows the journey from darkness to light. At different times in our lives, we face fear, anxiety, grief, or burdens that seem too heavy to carry. Yet the Resurrection assures us that no darkness is greater than the light of Christ. God restores. God renews. God makes all things new in His Son.

This is our faith. This is the Good News we proclaim, not only with our words, but through living our lives with compassion, mercy, and love. We are called to be witnesses to the hope that lives within us, a hope constantly renewed by the Holy Spirit.

Let us carry the joy of Easter into our homes and communities, sharing the light of Christ with all we meet.

Happy Easter! May the joy of the Risen Christ fill your heart and bless you abundantly this season. Alleluia!

Sincerely yours in Christ,

+ Most Reverend Gregory Parkes
Bishop of the Diocese of Saint Petersburg

Day 10: Final day of Pilgrimage. We woke up this morning in Florence and traveled by bus through beautiful Tuscany to Orvieto.

The Eucharistic miracle of Bolsena that occurred in 1256 is now kept here in the spectacular basilica in Orvieto. In response to this miracle, where a consecrated host bled onto a corporal, Pope Urban IV commissioned St. Thomas Aquinas to write the Mass and office for the new feast of Corpus Christi. St. Thomas Aquinas then wrote the liturgy for the feast, which was instituted by the Pope in 1264, and composed beautiful Eucharistic hymns like Pange Lingue and Tantum Ergo.

It was an amazing way to wrap up our pilgrimage. We continue to pray for Fran and her family and we pray for total and complete healing for her and safe return home soon.

Day 9 of the pilgrimage: Michaelangelo’s David and More! We started this morning with a tour of the Galleria L’academia where we got up close and personal with the masterpiece of David. Our guide pointed out the skill of Michelangelo in releasing David from the block of marble. One moving realization was how David’s nakedness is a sign of his total surrender to God’s will and that in order to defeat our own “Goliath’s”, we only need God.

Later we enjoyed some free time exploring the city before we toured the famous Uffizi gallery, and spent time gazing at the beautiful renaissance art by Davinci, Botticelli, and more. So much of this art is center on the Holy Family and demonstrated how art was used to Catechize during the Renaissance. The day ended with Mass inside the beautiful Duomo of Firenze, Santa Maria del Fiore, where we were allowed to wander alone after hours and see the beautiful inside of the dome. We are preparing to make our way back to Rome soon and our journey is winding down!
