Our high school mission team and leaders arrived safely in the Dominican Republic yesterday and are already hard at work today!

One of the greatest gifts of this trip is the opportunity to return year after year and deepen the relationships we have built with our friends and ministry partners.

Please continue to keep our team, our hosts, and all those we serve alongside in your prayers throughout the week.

We are excited to announce that singer-songwriter Andy Squyres will be coming to St. John’s this Wednesday, May 27 at 7:00 p.m. for a special pop-up concert in the church.

Known for his thoughtful lyrics, storytelling, and warm acoustic style, Andy has developed a devoted following across the country. This concert came together somewhat unexpectedly after clergy friends connected St. John’s with Andy while he was in Florida for concerts this week, and we are delighted to host both his first Tampa show and what promises to be a memorable evening in our beautiful church.

Join us for an up-close evening of songs, stories, and excellent music in the heart of Hyde Park.

Tickets are $25 and may be purchased through the link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/andy-squyres-in-tampa-at-st-johns-episcopal-on-may-27-tickets-1990233006498?aff=aff0bandsintown&bit_userid=32526262&appId=wf_naqlfdhlerf.pbz&comeFrom=700&artist_event_id=108426527

The Feast of the Annunciation is here.

Join us tonight at 6:00 p.m. for a Solemn High Mass at St. John’s.

This feast marks the moment the angel Gabriel came to the Virgin Mary, and she said yes to God. In that yes, the Word became flesh. Salvation begins quietly, in humility, in obedience.

The poet John Donne once reflected on a year when the Annunciation and Good Friday fell on the same day. He holds together Christ “hither and away,” the angel’s Ave and Christ’s final word from the cross, It is finished. Even though the Annunciation falls about a week before Holy Week this year, the connection remains. The child promised to Mary is the same Christ who will give his life for the world.

The full poem will be on the inside cover of tonight’s bulletin. Come and see.

This past Saturday, St. John’s hosted a Pastoral Care Luncheon in appreciation of our lay pastoral care team.

So much of the care that happens in our parish happens through these faithful volunteers who visit, pray, call, listen, and walk alongside others in times of need. Their quiet and steady ministry is an essential part of how St. John’s cares for our community.

During the gathering, there was also time to share about ways we hope to continue strengthening and supporting the pastoral care ministry of the parish.

St. John’s shows up for people, and we are deeply grateful for those who help make that possible.

A great Sunday at St. John’s.

After the services, many people stayed outside enjoying the beautiful weather and time together.

In Praying in the Wilderness, Fr. Andrew taught about praying with icons and how sacred images can help focus our prayer. Our children’s Sunday School remembered Samuel anointing David by doing oil finger painting.

Join us this Wednesday for the final evening of our Lenten programming. The night begins with Stations of the Cross at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner and the final session of Witness Unto Death: Patristic Martyrs and the Early Church. This week’s dinner is our parish-wide chili cookoff, so bring a pot of chili to share.

Next Sunday is Breakfast Sunday, and we will welcome our guest preacher Dr. Lauren Whitnah (PhD), Dean of Nashotah House Theological Seminary. She will preach at both the 8:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. services and will join us at breakfast to share more about Nashotah House and its work forming leaders for the Church.
